DISTINCTIVE NEW LIVERY FOR QUEEN MARY 2

New ‘Green Goddess’ for the Cunard fleet

Cunard today announced that its flagship Queen Mary 2 will receive a distinctive new external livery to celebrate the completion of the QM2 Remastered programme in June 2016 when the current black hull and white superstructure will be replaced by three shades of green.

The design takes inspiration from the past, as Caronia was the first Cunard ship to be painted green when she entered service in 1949 and she affectionately became known the world over as “the Green Goddess”. Three other ships followed suit in the 1960s and were painted green: Franconia, Carmania and Mauretania.

Now, as then, the new livery will entail a middling green hull, a darker green band circumscribing it and a superstructure in a paler green.

There are no plans to change the liveries of Queen Victoria or Queen Elizabeth at this time.

Angus Struthers, Cunard Director, says:

“Whilst there has been a growing trend for cruise lines to develop striking new liveries for their vessels, the green follows a historic Cunard tradition and we wanted to emphasise the enormity of the work undertaken during our Remastered programme for our flagship. This new livery celebrates the introduction of a new Queen Mary 2 as well as being a perfect nod to our past – we look forward to the Cunard fleet yet again boasting a ‘Green Goddess’!”

There's no pulling the wool over our Cunarders' eyes! This morning's announcement that Queen Mary 2 was to receive a vibrant new all-green livery for her hull and superstructure was indeed an April Fool's joke. We are delighted to confirm that the current Cunard livery is here to stay! Cunard ships have the most famous livery at sea and the same one that was worn by Cunard’s first ship, Britannia, in 1840. We continue to maintain the same livery with pride. #ForeverCunard

And I always thought Caronia had 5 shades of green. Just color me pea green with envy........:D:D

No... only four shades. The lower hull, the dark stripe, the superstructure... as far as boat deck... then fourth shade, above the boat deck.

Green was used in the old MAURETANIA in the 1930s. Just the superstructure above boat deck.... painted in 'apple green.'

We should never joke about these colours.... one day someone will come up with an idea to change the colours... as they did with P&O!

Right you are. Seems someone in corporate is forever playing with their finger paints. Remember what they did to QE2 with that dove gray looking hull? Thankfully they did take that back relatively quickly. I do have to hide my head and admit to liking the "Racing Stripe" though.:D:D And the picture you attached doesn't look half bad if they ever do take up your idea.
