Newbe to Royal Caribbean - couple of questions

Hi,

 

Wife and I have sailed with Celebrity a few times from Southampton - really enjoyed our cruises but this year wanting to go to the Canaries we've found the itineraries with Celebrity a bit duff. RC seem to offer a much better itinerary on Navigator of the Seas. We have a few questions about RC.

 

(1) Can you order a bottle of spirits as part of an in-room set-up?

(2) can you buy some form of Coffee Card?

(3) Is there a good site with up to date menus?

(4) We have Celebrity loyalty membership - is it recognised on RC? Do we collect points, is it worth signing up to RC Loyalty as well?

(5) What are the main differences you think we'll notice between RC and Celebrity

1. You are not able to buy bottles of spirits as part of an in room set up but you can take two bottles of wine on-broad with you to drink in your stateroom.

 

2. Coffee cards are not available some of the drinks packages have coffee included.

 

3. Someone on here may be able to post a copy of the current menu's from a recent cruise.

 

4. Yes Royal will should recognise your current status you should be able to check that on Royal's web site.

 

5. Sorry can't help with this not sailed on Celebrity.

Yes RCI will recognise your Captain's Club membership but you will need to enrol onto RCI's Crown & Anchor. You will need to contact Crown & Anchor to setup equivalent recognition.

[4] - Yes RCI will recognise your X status and tier level but it is important to know that you will not get any RCI points for sailing on X and vice versa. It is only your status that is recognised. So if you are Elite with X you will be given the Diamond status and the perks of that tier on RCI. But you will be Diamond with zero points.

 

 

[5] Think 4* Hilton vs 5* Marriott. ;)

Regarding Loyalty status, the lowest tier level with each that recognizes reciprocal benefits is Celebrity Presidents Club Select with RCI Crown & Anchor Platinum.

 

IMO the differences between the two are a better food and service level with Celebrity and better loyalty program and entertainment with RCI.

I agree with this in that the food and service is usually a notch up on Celebrity, but we find that RCL has a lot more going especially later at night. We are certainly not 'party' people but on Celebrity we found that when we came out of late dinner there was very little happening around the ship and most people had gone to bed. On RCL even if we just want to go to a bar and have a drink the atmosphere is more lively.

RC may be in the process of changing MDR menus, however I've not seen a schedule for roll out.

Love Celebrity for great service, food and indoor solarium in case of bad weather.

 

RCL is more about fun and shows, especially after dinner.

 

Celebrity seems more for adults who want to relax....RCL for families due to its huge selection of activities which are geared to a younger crowd.
