Is it windy on deck on European river cruises?

I have to guard against too much sun. I have hats with straps and hats without. So when the boat is cruising is it hat strap or non hat strap kind of of day on average.

If you're sitting at the very front of the top deck it can be windy when the boat is cruising; but easy to find a spot that isn't windy. Certainly not windy like an ocean cruise.

DH has the same problem and he uses a Tilly hat with both chin strap and strap in the back...if it's too windy, most lines have a covered area where you can be sheltered from the wind and the sun. But like pp...not like an ocean cruise! :D

On the top deck there are all sorts of canopies and umbrellas for shade too. You might not even need your hat

Of course, if the wind is behind the ship going forward at the same speed... then not so much.

A river cruise ship cruises at about the same speed as a bike (actually the bikes are going faster). So use a hat you use on a bike too.

Currently on the Seine where it was rather cold and windy Monday morning. At one point I was the only one on the sun deck apart from the crew member in the wheelhouse.

Wind blows ...waves happen. I wore a hat with a chin strap. I also use sunscreen. What I didn't expect was getting wet. Went outside on the forward aquavit deck to take a photo. I was way back when a wave hit the ship and soaked everyone on the deck. For most of the trip it was very calm. If you have windy weather, be careful.
