Pride staying overnight in NYC due to Matthew

I would love to spend a couple of days docked in NYC (assuming that I can use my Cheers package while docked) and get a discount on my next cruise.

But I can kind of see the POV where passengers chose to get on board in Baltimore expecting at least a trip to St. John's and now their not even getting that. I don't think it deserves a full refund, but I can see why maybe some people wouldn't be happy. Especially if they live within driving distance of NYC.

What did Fred Loney expect Carnival to do? They gave them an option for a full refund. He should have got trip insurance and not gotten onboard.

HOO BOY.. This guys is so clueless. Carnival offered the refunds, it was his choice to sail... Bet he feels that way when he doesn't have fun and win at the Casino... like the commercials promise he will!

Carnival is doing the best they can. $250 OBC and 50% off your next cruise is a pretty good deal due to the situation.

I am going to be on the Pride on the 16th and my wife and I talked about what we would do if a similar situation comes up and we decided we would cancel and rebook to a cruise at a later date this year (My work vacation days are basically use it or lose it). Hopefully it will be great weather in 2 weeks for the Bahamas and our cruise will go as planned.

At this point the OBC is basically the cost of Cheers now so for those stuck in NYC I hope you are treating this like a good old booze cruise because that is what I would be doing if I was on!!!

The complainers are the same ones that would flip their lids if they were out in the storm or even hit a HINT of rain and wind. Seriously, the coming hurricane wasn't a secret! And they were given an opportunity to cancel but chose not to take Carnival up on that offer and now want to complain? Good grief.

Couldn't agree more.

When booking a cruise this time of year, passengers should realize that changes in itinerary could possibly occur due to weather conditions. Also, it's a good idea for passengers to read the Cruise Ticket Contract so they know the rules before they cruise.

Better safe than sorry.

Sorry that this was not the cruise they expected, however you have no idea what Mother Nature is going to do. Glad everyone is safe, that is what is important. We deal with weather too except it is snow

The captain just announced we are staying docked in NYC until tomorrow at 5 pm.

We will not be going to St. John's.

We will have 3 sea days and be back in Baltimore on Sunday morning.

We get 50% off our next cruise.

Are you sure? Right now it doesn't even seem to be tracking that way any longer. It looks like it's gonna be hanging out off Cape Fear on Sunday.

lol! Probably not a hurricane that time of year, though a Nor'Easter is possible.

I think they missed all their ports and grabbed NYC as "safe harbor". It initially was a Bahamas then changed to New England/Canada and that got cancelled, too.

I probably would have cancelled my trip & re-scheduled, but were I on it, like OP, I would like to think I'd just make the best of it. She has the right idea.

Just so ya'll know. It is NOT 50% off your next cruise. How it works is they take 50% of the value of the cruise fare (before taxes) of the cruise you are on and send you a coupon which you can use towards your next cruise.

To call if 50% off your next cruise is truly a misnomer.

Didn't realize that is how they figure the 50% off discount? I know we had a itinerary change last year on a cruise to Bermuda which resulted in a 25% off future cruise discount. We waited to apply it to a Southern Caribbean cruise which was of more value and use the discount then. They actually took the 25% off the cruise fare and didn't have anything to do with our original cruise fare. Don't understand why it would be different?

We had a 25% discount on our canceled sandy cruise. It was not based on our original fare either.

It is not 50% off based on your current fare...

It is 50% off the fare of the next cruise you book...and you don't have to use it on the very next one, as long as it is within the specified time limit...

$250 on board credit and half off my next cruise. I would be happy to sit docked in NYC for that deal.

Anyone know what is happening to the cruises out of Port Canaveral and Miami this week? Has anything been officially cancelled or moved?

Checked Marine Traffic this morning and a number of cruise ships were clustered around Cozumel. I don't know about this evening.

We were on that cruise last year also. I agree. I booked another one on the cruise and as long as you took the same room category they didn't look at costs. I think we were allowed to take up to a 8 day cruise with the 25% off. They also gave us OBC. Still a lot of people complained there and I was just glad we were safe and out of harms way.

Quoted from the above article, "So far, Carnival says they will give guests $250 to spend on board and 50 percent off a future cruise. Many said they have no intention of taking Carnival up on that offer."

If it was possible to transfer that 50% off deal, I would GLADLY take it off their hands.

I second this. Very ungrateful people. I wish i could be on a ship right now.

I'm more than satisfied for sure. Even being from buffalo, we hardly ever get the chance to visit NYC. We are docked at pier 88, 6 blocks from Times Square. Loving it!

You are the most positive person on these boards with the hurricane situation! You are the type I would love on my cruise....Smooth sailing, no matter where you go!

Could you use the Cheers program while there? I know when we sail out of NYC on the Sunshine they do not allow the Cheers program on the first night. I think that would have been my only concern. :)

I believe those that have Cheers (as well as those paying for their drinks) have to pay the State & Local Tax while the ship is in New York. That's about a dollar for the average drink.

Yes, that is how it is done. "50% off what you paid for your current cruise as a credit toward a future cruise." This does commonly trip people up.

So if you got an extremely great deal on your current cruise, the future discount can be close to non-existent? That would suck.

I have been to St. John's and to New York City and I'll take NYC any day!! St. John's was really just to make the itinerary "legal" (going to Canada makes it international) If my cruise ship has to be "stuck" someplace because of a hurricane, NYC is not a bad place to be "stuck". :D

Fred Loney is the passenger they interviewed for this article that is onboard the ship now.

A few passengers make noise in order to get what they want (a refund that they should have taken when they had the chance) and the news media gives them lots of coverage while ignoring the fact that hundreds of other passengers are understanding and accepting the situation, enjoying the free drinks or spa or steakhouse with the OBC and planning their next cruise at half price. :D

We were scheduled on the Paradise back in 2000. It had an emergency dry dock that caused the cruise to be cancelled. Our cruise was refunded and we got 50% off on a booking. We took advantage of the discount and booked our Destiny cruise. It was less overall than the Paradise cruise... and we had a balcony cabin instead of an outside view.

Take advantage of the discount and take a wonderful (and more expensive) cruise.
