Confusing part is why are we still suppose to board late if the reason was to do the turnover. I am concerned about us being able to go on Saturday. I would hope if we are going and still leaving late Carnival would at least let us board at regular times......this is terrible waiting for yes, no, maybe or I don't know. So many rumors floating around it is not even funny.......Carnival should make an update at least to the ones who have already received emails about next 2 cruises.....

I agree we.. 38 other ladies and myself (we did have 47 but 8 have already cancelled) are suppose to sail as a group next Thursday, a week from today. We are just waiting to see what happens with the next cruise and what time it arrives back in port.

Such unnecessary snark. Also, inaccurate. The initial statement was ambiguous and could fairly be read either way.

No...I stand by my statement. Pretty concise for people with average reading comprehension. There is no or anywhere in those two independent clauses which listed what would be provided.

"We will provide you with a full refund of your cruise and any pre purchased excursions and Fun Shop items. We’d love nothing more than the opportunity to provide you with the cruise experience you were expecting and will gladly apply a 100% credit of the amount paid for this cruise toward your next 2-5 day cruise on Carnival.

I'm not too concerned about Progresso, but I'm confused as to why the late embarkation lol We don't have to wait for others to debark and the rooms to be cleaned lol

I'd imagine they are gearing up for some pretty involved inspections from the Coast Guard before passengers are allowed on board. That and they'll have to completely restock all of the perishables.

If it was simply an alternator failure, the testing by USCG is legally not required, as the main generators are not considered to be propulsion equipment, but even if done as part of SOLAS port state, should only take an hour or two. I don't see that provisioning would be much different than a normal turn-around, so I don't see either one impacting boarding. Even if USCG wanted to do a port state inspection and crew drill, they would more than likely have done it this week when no pax are onboard, so there would be no disruption of service.

We were booked on this cruise. As soon as we received notice that the cruise was cancelled we started looking for different options. Probably right along with everyone else. All cruises out of Galveston are full. We even checked New Orleans since we drove down from Okla. We ended up booking a 7 day out of Miami and will fly out in the morning and board the ship. It was either find an alternative or turn around and drive 10 hours back home. My husband was using the last of his vacation so we made it work.

Fingers crossed for you! I know she has a scheduled dry dock right after your cruise, hopefully they dont cancel more cruises and go to drydock earlier.

While the possibility of more cancellations exists, and I've got to admit that this one puzzles me as to why its taking so long, and why they need to cancel completely if it is simply an alternator, the possibility of moving a drydock ahead is very tiny. Grand Bahamas, in particular, is booked solid for about 18 months in advance, and they lost a few days due to Matthew.

Someone posted on a board yesterday right before the official announcement from Carnival was sent that the Coast Guard stated the 11/5 cruise was cancelled. I saw it. People were attacking her basically -so she removed her post.

Is there a calendar somewhere for the Grand Bahamas yards? Just curious to see what ships are scheduled in for maintenance / upgrades and when.

Not sure what the USCG has to do with it. Even if one propulsion motor/shaft/propeller was down, the other is considered sufficient to sail (98% of the world's ships only have one propeller), but they would probably require a tug escort into/out of US ports. The only thing I could think of would be that the USCG held a port state inspection, and found a fault with some SOLAS equipment. Even then, it isn't the USCG's call to cancel a cruise, just to detain a ship until repairs are complete.

I don't know of a schedule for GBSY, but there might be one out there. Googling "cruise ship drydockings" leads to several sites that deal with the schedules the lines publish, and cover some of the intended work. You can figure that almost every ship sailing from the US East and Gulf Coasts will use GBSY, due to its location and cost. Not sure about the Quantum class, I haven't checked the dock specs lately, but as we know they cannot handle Oasis class except in special circumstances. GBSY does way more cargo ships than passenger ships, my ship last November had to schedule a two week slot 12 months in advance, for one of the smaller docks.

At least they managed to cancel it before putting people on the ship this time...

But not much difference....as people like us fly if to get to our cruises and we would already be 'enroute' or THERE by the day before.....like we have planned for our Liberty on Nov. 26th cruise....flying in early on the 25th!! Not much difference to us!! Pretty bad if you ask me, as I truly know and believe that CCL knows further out than the DAY BEFORE that the ship will NOT be ready.

This is NO WAY to handle expensive vacation plans made sometimes YEARS in advance by their paying clientele!! BAD MOVE CCL!!:(
