Hi All-

I am sailing next month & just booked the cruise.

I have never had a butler or concierge on my past cruises. What kind of things do you use them for besides making reservations and unpacking/packing (which I still would do it by myself). Any tips would be really appreciated!

Thanks!

First off, we LOVED the Yacht Club on MS Divina. We had the Sophia Loren suite, so I figured when we arrived that our butler was ours alone. Nope. He attended 10 other suites. I asked him to unpack, and he was flustered that he had to do it. We ended up hardly ever using him. He is great to escort off ship...but he does it for his other suite guests so you line up. He did know our son loved cookies, and every night cookies [emoji514] were in our room.

Bottom line, don't expect a lot. But enjoy the quiet of the Yacht Club. Whenever we had to leave the confines, my DH joked that we were going outside the Wire.

We just got off Divina last week and were in YC. Our butler, Manoj, was wonderful. There was nothing he wouldn't do for us and he had a total of 8 cabins to attend to. He makes sure the room stewards take care of our room needs, answered all questions, guided us off ship, and to restaurant the first night so we knew how to get there. Showed us how to efficiently use the elevator system and every time we ran into him in the hall, lounge or deck, asked if he could do anything for us. The butlers, besides being assigned to specific cabins, work shifts in the Top Sail Lounge and One pool deck. They seem to work from early early morning to late late night. The concierge is like your own personal guest relations. Want specialty dining reservations, they will take care of it. Want to book a tour, or just have a question about the ship, just ask.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your responses!

That is a good idea that the butler would show you to the restaurant the 1st night especially since it is across the ship and if you don't want to walk outside it seems like it can be a bit confusing at first to walk there.

And you can only get included drinks in the YC area. Can they bring you a drink if you are at another area of the ship?

Well, there was a group of us when we disembarked the ship in Miami, but at the other ports, there was no line, he asked us when we were leaving, then was waiting outside our door at that time to take us down. In Puerto Rico he had water and some snacks for us to take with us.:)

Faze41, We had the same butler (I think). I wrote down his name phonetically as "Manoosh." He was always around. One morning I opened our door to get the newspaper and he was in the hallway helping the room steward clean.

Sugarnyc, I don't know how they would bring you a drink in another part of the ship. I don't think there are phones for the butlers (like I think NCL has). You can purchase drink coupons reasonably for the other parts of the ship, or get a drink "to go" from the YC. We did neither. Enjoyed our drinks only in the confines of the YC.

Hi there. We were in the same sailing. We had a horrible butler - Jacques - but we have been on DIVINA before in Yacht club - but never saw him - never escorted off ship ports - actually used our friends butler - only time we saw him and followed us wass to the elevator to disembark - again he never offered - again we used our friend butler to disembark - but he was certainly around the last minute looking for gratuity. Even though we were pro-active and collected our dirty glasses and plates and placed them at the door on the glass shelf - we still had to call to have them taken away - we did this in morning and the items still there at 4pm. Trust me, not upset as for us the Yacht Club butler is such a small percentage as to what the yacht club represents to us. Just saying - as all Butlers are definitely not the same. We had a most fantastic cruise - as we more laughed with our friends comparing what their butler did from them each day and what ours never did.

We had the butler escort the wife to some of the activaties during the day as she gets confused on where to go on the ship.

On night we were early for the nightly show so I went to the club to get us a couple of drinks. Our butler saw me and said he would take the drinks to the theatre for us. Off we go with him and a tray with our drinks on it to the middle of the theatre, I was embarrassed.

The butlers are there to help you all you have to do is ask. Like others have said earlier they will escort you off the ship at each port if you desire and tell them what time you are departing. They have a short cut to get off in Miami.

That is nice that your wife was escorted. Carrying my drink would be ok to feel tended to. But I would ask for it before going into the show. I am easy going and don't want to stand out.
