suesings Posted November 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 26, 2016 We just got off the Jewel this morning. This was our first NCL cruise ever. I am hoping to do a review over the next few days. Overall, we had a great time! We LOVED, LOVED our suite! Loved our concierge and room steward. Loved Cabo (as usual) Trying to attach photos of our suite. I hope I am doing it correctly! :D

suesings Posted November 26, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted November 26, 2016 (edited) Precruise: We drove down to Long Beach and stayed at the Hotel Maya. We love this hotel and always stay there when we are in Long Beach. I know there are closer hotels to the San Pedro port but we didn't mind the 10 minute drive in the morning. We got the stay and park deal at the Hotel Maya but decided to drive to the port and pay the parking so that our car was right there when we debarked. My 87 year old MIL decided to come on the cruise and we thought we should park at the port incase she needed help getting to her shuttle or airport at the end of the cruise. We drove to the port at 10:15 AM. We found parking right up front. It was raining pretty hard which wasn't great but we dropped our bags off with a porter and went to check in. Embarkation: This was our first time having a big suite with a Concierge and Butler. We got our bags scanned and then we were ushered into a special line to check in and get our pictures taken and key cards. At the end of checking in, the lady said meet me at the end of the row so she could pass us to the Concierge. We were greeted and moved into an area with chairs and food/beverages. It definitely felt special right off the bat. After we sat down the Concierge came up to introduce himself. His name was Bruno. He gave us a piece of paper with "suggestions" of what to do/decide quickly. (whether you needed restaurant reservations or changes, excursions, etc.). My advice is to read this list and make sure to do what it says! Thankfully, we had booked all of our restaurant reservations in advance but there were SO many people on board who could not get into any of the Specialty restaurants at all. Bruno kept pushing people to let him know ASAP but a lot of people waited. I felt bad for Bruno as he really worked hard to make everyone happy. I was astounded by all he did. I couldn't have asked for a better concierge. After about 10 minutes sitting in the "priority" area of the port, Bruno told us he was escorting a group onto the ship and off we went. We were walked to Moderno for lunch. Bruno even let me run to our suite to drop off my heavy toiletry bag. It was somewhere around 11 AM when we sat down to eat at Moderno. We thought the food was good and the ambiance very nice. After lunch, we went to our suite and our room steward was there. He eagerly introduced himself and was super friendly. His name was Roberto. He would greet us everyday by name and was always happy and outgoing. Edited November 26, 2016 by suesings
Markanddonna Posted November 26, 2016 #8 Share Posted November 26, 2016 We will be in a penthouse suite on the Jewel for the first time. I appreciate your details and suggestions. We usually travel in steerage so this will be a very different experience. I specifically want to know how to use the butler to my full advantage! Thanks. suesings Posted November 27, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted November 27, 2016 Posting a picture of Moderno and their breakfast menu. People in Suites and Haven get to eat breakfast and lunch there each day, if they want. There is also fruits, oatmeal, cereals, croissants, muffins, juices, etc. I liked the Crab Cakes Benedict. After lunch we all went to our suite. We all thought it was great. Here are some more pictures.

suesings Posted November 27, 2016 Author #17 Share Posted November 27, 2016 Hopefully these room photos will show. This is the first view into the room. There is the main door from the hall, then a landing area. The second bedroom to the left and another door right by the side lights that leads into the living room. You can shut the doors and bedrooms one and two have completely privacy. When my daughters shut their door, a card key was needed to open it. Here is a picture of the Italian coffee maker. suesings Posted November 27, 2016 Author #18 Share Posted November 27, 2016 It is letting me post some photos but not others? If anyone knows how to make them larger and not sideways, please let me know! I am hoping these are pictures of our suite's main bathroom. I didn't take pictures of the 2nd bedroom bath, but it looked like a standard room bathroom with a toilet, sink and shower. My girls liked it. After lunch, we signed our teens up for the teen club (Entourage). If you have kids, sign them up right away as the lines get really long for registration to all the kids clubs. After that our teens explored the boat and my husband and I went for a cocktails. Maltings Beer & Whiskey, Shakers Martini and Magnums Champagne bars are all side by side on Deck 6. Le Bistro is close and so is the casino. Throughout the week, a lot of people were at those three connecting bars. Great place for a dirty martini! Speasda Posted November 27, 2016 #20 Share Posted November 27, 2016 Was there a tv in the master bed area? Sent from my iPhone using Forums There should be a small TV in the master bedroom and kids bedrooms. There is a "larger" TV in the main living area. There is a DVD player in the main area - your butler will be able to get you movies from the list.

suesings Posted November 27, 2016 Author #24 Share Posted November 27, 2016 We ate at Tsar Dining Room our first night. I ordered the chicken. Our daughter ordered the vegetarian lasagna roll. We both really liked our entrees. I was apprehensive because of some of the comments I have read about the Main Dining room food. I ordered the sugar free chocolate brownie for dessert and it was dry but edible. Our teens went to the Entourage (teens club) but they thought it was boring (they are shy as well). Here is a picture of the two TV's in the master bedroom/bath.
