Uniall Posted September 14, 2017 #751 Share Posted September 14, 2017 Oh yes John!Yannis is my very favorite, but I kinda considered him as F&B. I thought he was a great HD when he held that position on a couple of our cruises - probably with you and Sharon Rae! I am so happy for him. I heard from Yannis recently and he sounded very happy. Good for Yannis, sad for passengers. Judy Judy Yes indeed. You're right on target about Yannis. Last month, we exchanged updates with each other. I told him to let me know, if and when, he goes to sea again. I told him I'd book a cruise just to see him, even if it were "Ruski Cruise Lines." ;p John

Azure Moon Posted September 14, 2017 #753 Share Posted September 14, 2017 I am not going to disagree with you but there are others in his class. Prem was and I am told, still, quite exceptional, and Klaus Lugmaier was simply the best and he trained Sean. As an HD he was the top of the tree. But the long post you replied to reconfirms my view that the teams are now changing and they are not replacing great crew with the same calibre. There have been others. The late Calvin Lodge ( who we still miss) was destined to be one of the best. For some Hugo was up there. Again mention for Richard Janicki now on the Gem - Another excellent HD and a true gentlemen - the old school I wonder if Sean will open the Bliss or will NCL start building a new opening team as the new ships come out thick and fast and perhaps a new generation of HD will be needed. Hello. I apologize if I missed more current information regarding the Gem... Is Richard Janicki on the Gem through September? I don't think I've sailed on a ship with him, so based on the opinion of him given by bmwman, I'm sure hoping Mr. Janicki will be on the Gem. Does anyone have a list of other current Gem officers? Thanks to all for information!

Uniall Posted September 14, 2017 #756 Share Posted September 14, 2017 Surely "One man's meat is another man's poisson". VBG I sincerely have no idea what "VBG" could possibly mean. As far as the quoted expression is concerned, this is a very old and oft quoted expression in the English language handed down to us by the Romans. Why do we say "One man's meat is another man's poison. Meaning: Everything is relative - what one person values, another may think worthless. Background: This expression originates in antiquity. Whether the Roman poet and philosopher Titus Lucretius Carus (known as Lucretius) coined the expression in the first century BC, or merely repeated it, his is the oldest known reference: "quod ali cibus est aliis fuat acre venenum" (what is food for one man may be bitter poison to others). The oldest reference known in English is in the autobiography of English composer Thomas Whythorne (c. 1576). By the early 17th century the expression is clearly well in use as Jacobean playwright Thomas Middleton writes "Whereby that old moth-eaten proverb is verified, which says, 'one mans meate, is another man's poyson'" (1604). Uniall Posted September 19, 2017 #765 Share Posted September 19, 2017 (edited) At the age of 20, I had all the answers. By 30, I realized 4 out of 5 was good. Turning 40, the new norm was 3 out of 5. At 50, life's reality became 2 out of 5. Since the 60 mark, I hope for once in a while. Try out these opinions on opinions: “You are not entitled to your opinion. You are entitledto your informed opinion. No one is entitled to be ignorant.” ― Harlan Ellison “Your assumptions [opinions] are your windows on theworld. Scrub them off every once in awhile, or the light won't come in.” ― Isaac Asimov “It's okay to disagree with the thoughts or opinions expressedby other people. That doesn't give you the right to deny any sense they mightmake. Nor does it give you a right to accuse someone of poorly expressing theirbeliefs just because you don't like what they are saying.” ― Ashly Lorenzana “It is only natural, of course, that each man should think hisown opinions best: the crow loves his fledgling, and the ape his cub.” ― Thomas More, Utopia “I have opinions of my own - strong opinions - but I don'talways agree with them.” ― George H.W. I erased my post advising that Mirsad was on Jade and erased too much. :) If all goes as planned, Sir B will be on Sun for Thanksgiving and I think someone wanted Concierge on Star. Until Dec. 15, that would be Suzy B ... simply lovely.
