I have long wondered why NCL and others ask for state of residence.before quoting prices.

 

Has anyone ever actually got a discount based on where they live?

 

Are they trying to limit the number of pax from a particular state?

 

Maybe they want to place them in a particular area of the ship so as not to upset others

Haha! So far I have only seen a small discount on Royal Carib for MA residents. I would think FL residents get more discounts.

We did once that I'm aware of. This was on Carnival.

Yes, they offer discounts for certain states for certain cruises. I have gotten discounts on cruises from either LA to Vancouver, B.C. and Vancouver to LA because I live in the State of Washington.

It's just a way to discount and fire sale cabins without having to give everyone already booked the same fare.

I imagine it is a way of getting cruisers from states close to departure or arrival port to take last minute offers.

Not with NCL but with another cruise line we have gotten a state discount (FL) and one other time the Law Inforcement discount.

Same here. Not NCL but on RCCL out of NJ we saved over 500pp.

Yep. Never booked under one but the website I use to compare cruises lists if there are any discounts for my state. I think it's a capacity thing in terms of they want to move cabins without offering an across the board discount to everyone.

MA discount a few times on Royal as well as a senior discount once or twice. Nothing on NCL but that doesn't surprise me since we've only cruised on Dawn which is based here in the summer & always sails full.

This is only a guess but I wonder if they get discounts on certain taxes or fees from states. Similar to thinks like locals get discounts to Disney if I remember correctly and other things GS like zoos give discounts to residents. Figure there has to be a true reason if all the lines are doing it and have for years
