Markiebabes26 Posted March 5, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2017 Our Itinerary on the 14 night cruise on Britannia departing 16th April to the Mediterranean has been changed. First port is now Gibraltar instead of Cadiz. I'm thinking this is better but as this is our first cruise to this region I'm not 100% sure. Any thoughts would be gratefully received. 6 weeks from now and we should be on board this fantastic ship.... :-) :-)
wowzz Posted March 5, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2017 Gibraltar is really rather tatty, with lots of tacky English style pubs and shops offering cheap booze. The rock is an interesting place to visit, but doesn't compare to the style and elegance of Cadiz Sent from my SM-T700 using Forums mobile app
terrierjohn Posted March 5, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 5, 2017 Looks as though you still get Cadiz, but now as your last port. Changes like this often happen.
tartanexile81 Posted March 5, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2017 The main street is pretty tacky as said but you can take a taxi tour round the Rock to see the apes, the tunnels and great views. There's usually vans waiting by the gate and in town. They take about 8 people so you would share with other people to keep prices down or you can also take a tour on your own. No need to book anything with P&O. There'a also a cable car if you're interested but we've never been able to do it as it's either been broken down or stopped because of the weather :(
daiB Posted March 5, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2017 You have to go to Gib some time in the cruise if you don't there is no DF and tax has to be paid on other purchases. Good point about Gib first is you can stock up on booze for the cabin. :). :) Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

sapphire4 Posted March 5, 2017 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2017 Were on the same cruise and cant wait. Yes Gibraltar is tacky but on our last trip we went up into the caves and had a fantastic guide who also drove us around the town and the local sites. There's a very good Morrison's near the port to stock up on booze etc... Just be careful if you are on free shuttles and plan to walk in you cannot get back on the shuttle to return to the ship. Apparently you are given a return ticket which we found out after queueing for ages. Looking forward to Cadiz. Hope its not lashing down like it was last year. Hope you like the Britannia she's a firm favourite of ours.
Dixiebelle13 Posted March 7, 2017 #8 Share Posted March 7, 2017 Agree about Gibraltar... been a couple of times (2nd time to accompany other holiday-mates or wouldn't have bothered!) and is it just me or do they also seem to get English weather?!! If you've got to call there, I think you've dropped on doing it first... it's out of the way and you can stock up on essentials you'd usually have to take from home (i.e booze ;-)) Don't get me wrong, it's not a horrible place... just too much like being in any-town at home! Rare elmsliebev Posted March 8, 2017 #9 Share Posted March 8, 2017 Agree with previous comments. Cadiz is a lovely town to wander round or the excursion to Seville is worth doing as it is a spectacular city - we sent 5 days in Seville last year and loved it. But if you just want a wander round a lovely Spanish town and get some tapas, Cadiz is great. We were there in April 3 or 4 years ago and the weather was wonderful. Have a lovely time

Not sure where you live in the U.K. But we have always had baking hot weather in Gib. Mid to high 20's. No rain.
