Mosquitos on the river cruise

Will we need plenty of bug spray when near the river in May?

There are few ifs here, which river are you cruising? The time of year etc. Scenic have only recommended taking bug spray on one of our cruises but the tour guides on the coaches also offered it, supplied by Scenic. I am usually very susceptible to mosy bites but no problem on that cruise which if I remember correctly was the Seine. Anywhere near any water source can be attractive to the little devils. Funnily enough no problem whilst on the boat but when we were touring. Just take some with you for your peace of mind and have a great cruise. CA

Rhine, Main & Danube rivers this May. The little critters just love me.

I was on the Grand European Tour last June-July (Rhine-Main-Danube). I packed insect repellent and never used it. Didn't encounter a single mosquito.

Had no problem on the Rhine last June.

Was on the Rhine last June and was eaten alive when sitting topside after dinner in the evenings. However, the venue was so awesome, I just learned to work with it and load up on the deet.

We sailed the Seine in 2013 and the Danube in 2015, no mosquitos either time.

We sailed the Danube and Rhine in 2015 with no issue, but Scenic asked that we keep our decking window closed overnight to keep any bugs out of the rooms. We opened our window during the day and evening without any concerns.
