Transportation from San Juan Airport Hotel to Pier

 Share

Recommended Posts

We are a family of 6 taking Adventure of the Seas in July. We are staying at the San Juan Airport Hotel the night before. What is the best way to arrange transportation to the ship? Will we need 2 vehicles or will we be able to secure 1 large one? What time should we arrange pick up? Does anyone have any idea of the approximate cost? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Taxis are fixed cost based on zones in San Juan. Cost will be $20-$25 per cab, depending on number of bags. Depending on bags, you may be able to fit in a minivan taxi, but I'd plan on two taxis.

Take a taxi. There are vans. Rates are by zone, plus $1 per piece of luggage. Probably $30-ish. Less than 30 minutes.

Or Uber.

We usually arrive before noon to beat the crowds. Or wait until after 3:00pm, but you will miss lunch.

Taxis from Zone 1 (Airport) to Zone 4 (All Cruise Ship Piers) is $19. Since you have 6 passengers, you will pay $2 for that 6th passenger ($2 per passenger after 5th passenger). There is a $1 charge per piece of luggage. There are plenty of taxi vans available so you only need to take one vehicle. I would avoid Uber since they typically can't handle that many passengers in a single vehicle. Just be mindful that even if you do use a taxi, the driver will most likely overcharge you. They assume most passengers don't know the fare rules and they will pocket the difference. Keep this in mind when deciding whether or not to tip the driver.

Thanks for the helpful hints everyone.

Same is true going from ship to airport. There is a cab dispatcher that matches parties to various size cabs both at airport and at the pier. They give you a paper that you give to the driver. Easy. Two airport issues: 1. Airline may not let you check in bags until 4 hours before flight and there is basically nowhere to sit outside of security. There is a storage place for bags, but it is something like $10/bag and they may or may not be there when you come back for them (at least the one near American wasn't very reliable). 2: All bags must go through agricultural scanner near the entrance door before airline will take them. Declare any food products - they want to inspect things like cheese from Aruba. Most foods must be discarded.

Last September, the Uber drivers were being roughed up & intimidated by the Taxi Drivers and would not drop off or pick up at the port pier. They required that you meet them in the parking lot. Not sure what it is like now. If you do use Uber which is far cheaper, request an Uber XL. (basically a vehicle w/ a 3rd seat) Happy Cruising!
