jvparish Posted October 11, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 11, 2017 My husband is not going to be able to cruise with my daughter and I this Sunday on the Dream due to medical reasons. What will happen when we show up and he is not with us? I know we will loose what we paid for him as the third person but I just want to make sure we will not have any issues when we check in. Thanks. jvparish
mdsgu Posted October 11, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 11, 2017 As I understand it, you will lose the amount you paid for him to sail (I think you will get back the taxes and fees, and the gratuities if you pre-paid them). Other than that, there shouldn't be any problems.
jvparish Posted October 11, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted October 11, 2017 Thank you so much for your response:D I am relieved. Husband is sad but doesn't think after his back surgery he would enjoy the cruise much.

Thanks. jvparish Hope he is feeling better soon! Yes, just check in without him and they will refund any taxes and fees (you will loose his fare). If you have insurance that would cover his medical condition, though, it would be better to cancel him and then file a claim with the insurance. It's not like you would need to pay a single supplement, since you aren't cruising alone.
blondie151o Posted October 11, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 11, 2017 Not that you may want to... but are you allowed to let someone else take his place and just pay a small fee? Is that possible ? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
easyboy Posted October 11, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 11, 2017 There won’t be any issue even if you check-in without your husband. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
cb at sea Posted October 11, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 11, 2017 You are way past any refund period, but you will get taxes and port fees back for him.

Schoifmom Posted October 11, 2017 #10 Share Posted October 11, 2017 It would only get back, if any, of the 3rd person fare I'm always of the opinion that something is usually better than nothing :)
CA_Cruzing Posted October 11, 2017 #11 Share Posted October 11, 2017 It would only get back, if any, of the 3rd person fare correct. i'd take it instead of giving it to Carnival for free.
jvparish Posted October 11, 2017 Author #12 Share Posted October 11, 2017 Thanks everyone for the advice. I feel better that my daughter and I will not have any trouble. I don't know about canceling him but will find out.
sassykitten74 Posted October 11, 2017 #13 Share Posted October 11, 2017 Yep, call and cancel him, you will get your paid taxes back at least.
Clairescurtains Posted October 11, 2017 #14 Share Posted October 11, 2017 He might be surprised at how much he could enjoy the cruise. I did an Alaska cruise two weeks after back surgery with no problem at all. He might have worse problems than I did but maybe not.

Melcoug Posted October 14, 2017 #17 Share Posted October 14, 2017 Check the credit card you used to pay for your cruise. Some of them offer trip cancellation insurance that customers aren't aware of.
