Treacher1 Posted October 16, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 16, 2017 If anyone is currently on the Summit Canada/New England cruise -please give us some information. How are the seas - calm/rough - too late for fall foliage or are the colors still there? We are going next year and would appreciate any information and if you especially suggest any of the port excursions. Thank you!!!
DinaS Posted October 16, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 16, 2017 You do realize that calm seas now won't mean anything a year from now, right? Peak color is also a variable depending on weather. Everyone was saying how great the change of color would be this year, but it appears they were wrong - at least in NJ and the Hudson Valley, NY. Treacher1 Posted October 16, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted October 16, 2017 Absolutely agree - has nothing to do with what it will be like next year, however, I had not seen anything posted live from this cruise and was just hoping for some information. Hope you are having a great time.
phoenix_dream Posted October 16, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 16, 2017 You might want to go to the ports of call boards and try to get some input on how the seas are generally in that area this time of year. That might help somewhat but no guarantees.
gold1953 Posted October 17, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 17, 2017 I live in Halifax. This year we still have beautiful warm weather and the leaves are just starting to change. Every year is different . The rough sea question.... well just like down south where they only get rough seas in bad weather. North does not equate to rough seas.. just means it get cold in winter
CruisingChick Posted October 17, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 17, 2017 Fall foliage this year at least on the shore has not been great. Trees are losing leaves before they change and they are changing late and colors muted. We have done the Canada/New England cruise 12 times at all different times of the year. I think only once did we have really good foliage on the last cruise of the season. If you really want to see fall foliage, do not take a cruise but book a land vacation for Vermont or New Hampshire. C 2 C Posted October 17, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 17, 2017 A number of years ago we left Bayonne with the temperature hovering at the freezing point and Quebec welcomed us with 5 inches of snow. Due to strong winds we could not visit Prince Edward Island. One year ships were forced to overnight in Quebec due to hurricane force winds on the St Lawrence. The weather varies too much to make plan for fall foliage. However the last cruise of the season could offer the most spectacular colour if mother nature ever returns to "normal". Hydrokitty Posted October 17, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 17, 2017 We did this cruise on the Summit last October and were the last cruise of the season. There's no predicting what the foliage will be from year to year....we had exquisite color throughout Canada.....we also got caught by hurricane Matthew who just wouldn't break up and caused us to spend a full day in the mouth of the st Lawrence river to avoid 30-35' seas! We missed port in Maine (Acadia NP, which broke my heart) but I'm glad Captain Kate decided to wait until the storm passed as we still had 20-24' seas.....but it was a wonderful cruise and judging by the MDR, most of us made it to dinner every night! The maple syrup is to die for and unlike any we can get in US. :D

imlulu Posted October 18, 2017 #10 Share Posted October 18, 2017 I'm south of Boston. Leaves have been falling and changing for a few weeks. My kids live near NH and leaves were much prettier there 3 weeks ago.
Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted October 25, 2017 #11 Share Posted October 25, 2017 Just off the last Canada/New England cruise on the Summit. Seas were calm. Weather was spectacular. Only a small amount of rain in Quebec City the first day. Leaves were particularly good in the Canadian portion of the cruise (second week) but you had to go into the countryside to see them.
