creel5857 Posted January 19, 2018 #26 Share Posted January 19, 2018 you would think that the city could reroute a protest march to not directly effect major traffic in the port area
Rare crunchii Posted January 20, 2018 #27 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Thank you, David, for the update! We're in San Diego now, in Springhill Suites across the street from the cruise terminal. I guess we'll walk over to the port at 9, before the march gets here. Thanks again, David. We really appreciate the information you've been sharing with us! SetAnOpenCourse Posted January 20, 2018 #28 Share Posted January 20, 2018 The estimates here of the number of participants are vastly different, so if the numbers are important to cruise visitors, be advised that some different marches have had ten times the number that was being reported by many news sources. Meanwhile, some marches may have their number reported as ten times the actual.
Rare crunchii Posted January 20, 2018 #29 Share Posted January 20, 2018 It's 6:00 in the morning here on the west coast, and Westerdam arrived here at 5:30 am. I hope everyone can leave the port before the traffic mess starts! Yeah, get off my ship so I can board! ;)

DAllenTCY Posted January 21, 2018 Author #32 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Thank yous due to SD Harbor Police and SD Police! There was an access lane from the airport for taxis, private vehicles, and buses until nearly the end of the march. At that time all of the police escorts had moved away, and the marchers took the entire roadway over. I'd say that there were nearly two times as many protesters than last year. My guess....60,000...far less than predicted.....thank goodness. David

David From the San Diego media today 2018: crowd numbers about the same as estimated last year 2017 - 30-40,000: As thousands of participants descended on the streets of downtown San Diego, police issued a traffic alert around part of Harbor Drive that remained in effect through the end of the march. The police department later said the crowd was estimated at 37,000 people.
