LadyVol1 Posted August 6, 2018 #51 Share Posted August 6, 2018 'Wine'packages are available to pre-purchase in advance or onboard via the sommelier. The guest is give a booklet of 'Coupons' depending on the amount of bottles chosen from the wine package. eg 4/6/12. There is a standard selection of wine to choose from ie 'The Captains selection' or a slightly premium range, 'The Commodore selection'. Is it less expensive to buy the tokens/coupons in advance? BigMac1953 Posted August 6, 2018 #52 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Is it less expensive to buy the tokens/coupons in advance? There is a small discount depending on the quantity, and there's no service charge or Spanish IVA where applicable.
picsa Posted August 6, 2018 #53 Share Posted August 6, 2018 That is interesting as I was charged more on the recent cruise, ending 3 August. Once I was charged $25, once $23 or so. Unfortunately I did not check (but just signed) in the restaurant. When I asked at the purser's Office, I was told it is $ 25 now. It is $25 now - https://ask.cunard.com/help/cunard/before-you-sail/alcohol
Tangoqueen Posted August 6, 2018 #54 Share Posted August 6, 2018 It is $25 now - https://ask.cunard.com/help/cunard/before-you-sail/alcohol The message mustn’t have spread around all the sommeliers yet as we only asked ours in the MDR on the last evening on 2/8 on QV. They’ll get you one way or another. We were planning taking our own in November but with that corkage possibly won’t bother. jonnoguy Posted August 7, 2018 #55 Share Posted August 7, 2018 It is $25 now - https://ask.cunard.com/help/cunard/before-you-sail/alcohol Does anyone know who receives the corkage charge? Much better, in my view, if it's the sommeliers rather than Cunard. I suspect it might be the latter though from the way one sommelier in the Verandah was very keen for our table to drink the wine we took to the restaurant so he could, presumably, sell us another one off the wine list! Underwatr Posted August 8, 2018 #56 Share Posted August 8, 2018 When the corkage was $20 it used to appear on the receipt as $15 corkage plus $5 gratuity.
DreamingOfSunnyDays Posted August 8, 2018 #57 Share Posted August 8, 2018 Would I able to take a case of wine onboard? Eg that’s not in a suitcase?
Underwatr Posted August 8, 2018 #58 Share Posted August 8, 2018 (edited) Yes, easily. Easier if you can hand carry or wheel it aboard rather than checking it (custody plus protection from handling). I have a wheeled collapsible cooler that will hold about ten bottles (wine plus champagne). No one has batted an eyelash as I wheel it aboard. Like this, but not precisely this: Edited August 8, 2018 by Underwatr
