Rare Keith1010 Posted February 26, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2018 In addition to visiting the beaches these are other items we enjoy when we visit Barbados. After leaving the cruise port we walk along the path with the water on the right hand side. The walk into town is about 30 minutes. Upon our arrival to town we walk over to the Parliament which was built in 1870 to house the British Commonwealth's third-oldest parliament. Rare Keith1010 Posted February 26, 2018 Author #2 Share Posted February 26, 2018 From there we walk over to St. Michael's Cathedral which was originally built in the 1600's and was rebuilt in 1784 and again in 1831 due to extensive damage resulting from two different hurricanes. It is said that George Washington worshipped there in 1751 on his only trip outside the United States.

Rare Keith1010 Posted February 26, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Next we visit Bridgetown Synagogue which has been home to one of the oldest Jewish congregations in the Western Hemisphere. The Synagogue was formed by Jews who left Brazil in the 1620's. The adjoining cemetery has tombstones that date back to the 1630's.

Rare Keith1010 Posted February 26, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted February 26, 2018 As we continue our walk we either walk on the side of the main road by the water or on the opposite side of the road. These photos are from the side with the water.
Rare Keith1010 Posted February 26, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted February 26, 2018 When we walk on the opposite side of the road as we near the Cruise Port we stop at some local stores.
Rare Keith1010 Posted February 26, 2018 Author #10 Share Posted February 26, 2018 At this area there is a local craft store that we stop at where we pick up one or two locally made items. Keith
Rare Keith1010 Posted February 26, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Back at the Cruise Ship terminal there are lots of stores. Some are one of a kind stores but after all this is part of the Caribbean so you also see those stores that you see in so many Caribbean Ports. We don't shop at the chain stores though. Rare Keith1010 Posted February 26, 2018 Author #12 Share Posted February 26, 2018 And you must watch out for the local pirates. LOL Keith
Rare Keith1010 Posted February 26, 2018 Author #13 Share Posted February 26, 2018 In short, your day in Barbados could be a beach day and there are beaches that are easily reachable on foot with a long walk or in a taxi or you can spend time downtown or do a combination of both. Or you could take a tour and see other parts of the island or do this vis-a-vis a taxi. We enjoy visiting Barbados. Keith
