debnrick Posted August 13, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2018 Are there things to do within walking distance from the ship? How about a beach within walking distance? Was wondering if this should be a day to stay on the ship or not. Thanks.
flounder315 Posted August 13, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2018 nothing to do at the port. no beaches within walking distance. very industrial port area... stay on the ship
Bostwick girl Posted August 13, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2018 There is a small shopping area at the port. We usually take a bus ride into Freeport and go to the casino or maybe some of the shops down there. Never taken any carnival excursions. Sometimes we just stay on the ship and watch the port activity.
rolloman Posted August 13, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 13, 2018 Take a 5.00 shared taxi-bus to Lucaya. Lots of shopping, bars/ restaurants, casino, beach. Beautiful beach and basically the thing to do when in Freeport.
Joebucks Posted August 13, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 13, 2018 Don't stay on the ship. There are fun things to do in Freeport. Don't let the ugly port turn you off.

CoW mAn Posted August 13, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 13, 2018 Nope. Also dodgy cabs at the port, you can watch security chase them off. I recommend an official excursion or stay on the ship.
Trueblueky Posted August 13, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 13, 2018 Lucaya is where to go. The bus shuttles back and forth. I do not recall anyone checking to see if we were on an excursion. Certainly, not on the way back to the cruiseport.

debnrick Posted August 14, 2018 Author #10 Share Posted August 14, 2018 So if I am understanding this correctly.... There are readily available shuttles to take you back and forth from the dock to Lucaya?? Do you make arrangements to be picked up and brought back to ship or do,you just hop on the next one available? Obviously don't want to be a dock runner trying to get on ship before it leaves port ;)

Obviously don't want to be a dock runner trying to get on ship before it leaves port ;) The shuttles run continuously on a bout a 1/2 hour loop, so yes you just hop on the next available one. Other options are to do some of the resorts for the day, like Cove Beach Resort has their own shuttle.

Obviously don't want to be a dock runner trying to get on ship before it leaves port ;) Plenty of shuttles...one right after the other. They will drop you off in front of the taxi/shuttle stand in Lucaya, once you are ready to head back, simply go to where they dropped you off (which is right in front of everything) and take the 20 minute ish ride back to the ship. I live in Florida and have been there numerous times.
