Rare Scrapnana Posted August 27, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2018 On her way from Quebec to Fort Lauderdale (and then drydock), Maasdam will be visiting New York City from 0700-1645 (EDST). Amsterdam will be making her weekly visit to Juneau from 1300-2100 (local time) at the CT dock. The Maasdam visitors will have a sweltering, sunny day in the Big Apple with a forecast of 96F/36C. On the other hand, the Juneau visitors will be met by (you guessed it) a 100% chance of rain. The high will be 60F/16C and a low of 49F/9C. Sunrise is at 5:49 am and sunset at 8:08 pm. Also in port in New York City is Carnival Horizon. In Juneau, Amsterdam will be joined by Radiance of the Seas at the AS dock from 0700-2130, Golden Princess at the FKL dock from 0800-2100, and, doing the Norwegian Shuffle, Bliss will be at the AJ dock from 0700-1330 and Pearl from 1400-2200. The webcam locations are: New York http://www.nyharborwebcam.com/ http://www.portnywebcam.com/ Juneau http://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/ Next up: Noordam on Wednesday. Happily@Sea Posted August 28, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Double duty tomorrow - with Amsterdam being blocked out late by RCCL, we shouldn't have any schedule conflict with Maasdam leaving NYC. See you then.
Rare rafinmd Posted August 28, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Ouch. I don't like the look of those NYC temperatures. Maasdam is approaching the Verizzano but I'm heading out for my walk. Roy

Boytjie Posted August 28, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 28, 2018 I saw that the Carnival Horizon hit the pier when it was docking this morning. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=56898981 https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Carnival-Cruise-Ship-Collides-With-Dock-on-Manhattans-West-Side-Officials-491888761.html You can see the damage to the pier on the http://www.portnywebcam.com/. On Sunday we were coming back from Delaware and as we drove over the Verrezano-Narrows Bridge, the NCL Escaped passed underneath on it's departure. We could also see the QM2 departing from the Brooklyn cruise terminal. Not able to take pictures. :(

Boytjie Posted August 28, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 28, 2018 I hope that isn't where we dock tomorrow. Roy The pier is in operation. Maasdam is at Pier 90 (which was hit, no major damage) and Horizon is at Pier 88. You will be the only ship at the Manhattan Piers.

Not able to take pictures. :( Many years ago we were on the Island Princess waiting in a special lounge at the back of the ship for disembarkation when an RCI ship hit the end of our dock -- made too sharp a turn. Smashed the dock up pretty badly. Glad we were on a small ship or we would have been smashed as well. Thank you for the links.

Rare Copper10-8 Posted August 28, 2018 #16 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Who's responsible the Capt or pilot?? Capt has ultimate responsibility for his ship, even inside the Panama Canal
Rare rafinmd Posted August 28, 2018 #17 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Who's responsible the Capt or pilot?? As I understand it Pilot ONLY advises except in Panama Canal or when entering or leaving a drydock, so I assume at least Carnival is responsible.
