Were you not trying to use it to take out OBC.  Different than what I was referring to.

Not really - they did not know why I wanted it.....they told me before they even checked anything - that they would only give promo-chips with no cash value!:classic_rolleyes:

All,

This is "freeplay" chips, and should not be redeemable for cash.  My big question is how are the chips replaced when I win or push.  If I win, is my freeplay chip replaced with a cashable chip.

Would highly recommend folks checking out the Wizard of Odds web site.  He describes different chips, and their value.  In this case, I believe he refers to these RCL freeplay chips as "non-negotiable":

https://wizardofodds.com/gambling/promotional-chips/

Final thoughts.  Years ago, I was able to buy chips on my seapass card, which went against the credit card.  The onboard casino's stopped this practice, since the extra 3% paid to the credit card companies ate into their profits/margin.  I think it unlikely that RCL would off up 5% profit (additional free play chips), plus incur the cost of the credit card when purchased ahead of time pre-cruise (on the credit cards).  These freeplay chips are definitely not as valuable as real cashable chips.

That said, I will be cruising on the Brilliance in 8 days out of Tampa, and will buy the smallest amount to better understand the ramifications.

If you win you will be paid in real cash chips and your promo chips will stay on the table for the next game/hand

On HOTS right now. Just spoke with the cage manager and host. Both stated that the entire amount is paid in promo chips. It can never be cashed out. This is the dumbest promotion ever.

Seems ridiculous to me.

Its actually very simple folks, if you think you will spend $1K or $2K or the $500 then purchase and get the extra promo chips or slot play. You still get bonused for points, you still get awarded your winnings in real cash or credits or chips...

Simple marketing scheme, and assures a gambler will gamble his minimum, if you want more, get more if not dont...

No need to over analyze...

I will be playing with mine in a few days!

It is all promo too loaded to seapass card and can not be cashed out - only winnings will produce a cashout ticket!:classic_angry:

Ok so:

- slots only have to be played through once - for example 2200 spins on a $1.00 machine.

- chips have to be played through until they are lost - you will play far more than the $2200 before you are rid of the promo chips.

I still say the promo chips should be replaced with real chips on a win or push, that way you are truly playing through $2200.

You are forking over $2000 to get $2200 of monopoly money. You need to win $2000 just to break even. This is beyond ridiculous. Why wouldn't you just bring $2000 cash onbaord? Even if you didn't bring cash and just charged to your room account with the 5% waived, you would still be better off, since you're only taking out more money when required. I'm so glad I got clarification on this before I bought into this scam. I was going to buy $4000 between two of us, but that just seems so ridiculous now.

Thanks for everybody onboard that had to "test the waters" before anyone else gets duped.

Ice Bear - i get it, then they dont need to buy the promo then and get the additional bonus...i know I will play thru mine, eventually by the end of my cruise, its a no brainer,

I understand you're going to play at least $2000, I've done that everytime. But what you're doing is giving the $2000 now. So for you to even be up, you would have to win BACK your initial $2000 first, then another $200 of the bonus.

If you go in and ONLY win $1500, you're still in the hole for $500. If you didn't buy into this scheme, that $1500 would be entirely yours. If someone in their promotions department has convinced people this is a deal, that person should get a raise or a cut of the sales.

TekGuy, we are on same side,

ok you have your $1k out real cash chips and we are playing roulette, forget about odds and 0/00 for now, lets you put $1K on Red, I put $1K of Promo chips on red, we hit Red...we both high five each other right!? you get $1K paid back, I get $1K paid to me, still high fiving each other right?

next bet, same Red, same $1K each, its black, you lose $1K cash chips, I lose $1K promos chips, whats the balance, we are back to even, $1K each, but I have $200 promo still to play...thats the difference, not much I know, but we both knew we were playing that $1K, I simplified the bet for sake of ease, now i can bet the $200 again or BJ or craps, ...***** you and i can go for a drink and watch me scratch my ticket too lol, its fun, its entertainment, all im trying to say,

NOBODY wins 100% of the time in a casino.  If you buy in for $1000 most people (at least I do) you "play" for around $5000 - you win and you lose. Even BlackJack is basically 50/50 and you'll get in 50-100 hands an hour based on the number of players. So if you come out ahead you still "lost" maybe half those bets... so maybe $100 in promo chips exchanged PER HOUR. Playing $5 a hand.  Its wishful thinking you'll end even day 1 or 2 with promo chips left.  (Yes you can be lucky and be up, but you aren't winning every promo bet.)

This is not for me. I like to manage my money more than this allows. I have had times at craps where I have won early without placing many bets. I am fine walking away at this point or limiting what I lose from that point forward. I could also be down a few hundred and say it is time to stop. While there is the potential that I may place $500-$1,000 or more in bets for the week, I don’t like having the mindset that I am going to the table knowing I have to lose $500 to $2,000. No thanks.

... I guess one could sell the promo chips to others .. but thats a PITA

I would guess you would have to sell them at a discount to entice people to buy them because of the restrictions on how they can be used.

Good luck trying to sell your magic beans 🙂

Psst, hey. You want to buy these magically promo chips from me? I'll give you $500 for only $400 cash. But you cant redeem them for cash, but you have potential to turn it into millions.

Hmmm, but couldn't I already do that with my same $400, without the risk?

Womp, womp.

I am on Oasis now with the slot promotion. The casino loads your sea pass card with the promotion and bonus. At the machine, you select how much you want to play. I played $30 on a machine and have to play the 30 on that machine. After the 30 is played you can cash out. I won 200 on the 30 played and cashed out. Went to another machine and loaded 30 on that one. Depending on how lucky you are, you just keep cashing out once promo played and then add an additional promo play.
