Broken Flag Rope on the CB

What a hoot!

While lowering the flag this evening on the CB, the rope broke! It frayed sufficiently that the flag guy couldn’t get it to thread through the pulley.

He and another guy yanked and yanked on it but nothing doing. The rope finally broke.

The crew tried for two hour before arriving at a temporary solotion.

Somone finally decided to lower a rope from above rather that trying to solve the problem totally with a looooong pole from below.

Bermuda is proud tonight! The flag is back up.

Grand entertainment for all who were aft on  14-17  on the boat during the fix.

Nice fix and great thinking on the part of the crew.  We were on the CB last cruise.  Have a great time.

And I followed your posts faithfully. Very, very helpful as this is our first cruise on CB. We appreciate your contributions!

The flag is the Red Ensign (or Red Duster) and is flown on British registered merchant and passenger ships. The Bermudan flag is the Red Ensign with an additional crest - worrying, the crest incorporates a sinking ship!

Looks like you are an amateur vexillologist.  (One of my favorite words!)

Why should they bother spending so much on entertainment when people would be fascinated with a rope and a flag?

I sure thought there was a lot of time and effort put into something that could easily have been done without. As I got to thinking about it though, I wondered if it might be a requirement when a ship is at sea. I just don’t know about these things.

Guess I’m not totally clear on exactly what you are saying. Would you elaborate lease?
