We have to cancel our cruise that is this coming December. There is going to be a 198 penalty if I do. Our debit card that we used when we booked is not valid.  Question is when I cancel and they can’t charge the penalty to the debit card. What will happen? Sue us?

any fees will be deducted from any refundable amounts due.

 

If you placed an 800 dollar deposit and cancel, they can take the fees out of that and give you the rest.

How much was your deposit? $500??

Then they are going to try to refund your debit card $302. (But, since the debit card is not valid, you have to figure out how to get your money back.)

You need to call Carnival and ask. Unfortunately you are not giving us enough details to help you. Such as how much your deposit was, what rate you booked under, etc. Even then, it’s best to call Carnival and get the correct information. Good luck.

If you booked Early  Saver, it’s a non refundable rate. After they subtract the cancellation penalty, the rest of what you paid will be turned into a future cruise credit. So, you won’t get any money back.

I am not sure how relevant this is but I had a cruise with a $98 deposit for 2 people. I let it go without every canceling. No further penalties have been seen. Maybe the OP has $198 in deposits?  I've also canceled a cruise and applied all but the canceling charge to another cruise.

Indeed, OP has not given enough info, like how many cruisers booked, under what rate, were there any deposit discounts at the time, and what was deposit amount actually put down (might be more than minimum required), etc.
