Iowa Traveler Posted February 20, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2019 Will be spending 12 hours in NYC, docking at the Red Hook cruise terminal. Wondering how close that is to the nearest subway stop. Would appreciate any pointers you have for someone from a small town with zero public transportation. We'll want to get to/from the Times Square vicinity. Thank you!
KreinKrunker Posted February 20, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2019 (edited) There is a ferry (water taxi) at Red Hook that will take you to Pier 11/ Wall St in lower Manhattan. From there you can access the subway easier than from Red Hook. Only been to the area a couple of times, but would guess that the nearest subway stop is about a mile to a mile and a half from Red Hook. There are city busses close by. thinfool Posted February 24, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2019 Just confirming the ferry....and adding that it will leave you in Lower Manhattan, too far to walk to Times Square (42nd street & 7th ave). If you feel adventurous, look up the subway map online and plot your way to Times Square from the Wall St ferry stop.
138east Posted February 24, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2019 The Wall St stop in lower Manhattan is about 5 blocks from the ferry, much closer than the Smith-9th St stop in Brooklyn and probably a much nicer walk. The F train at Smith-9th St will take you to 42nd & 6th (1 avenue east of Times Square) with 13 stops. The number 2 and 3 express trains from Wall St will take you to Times Square in 6 stops.
Rare Noxequifans Posted February 24, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 24, 2019 Traveling with luggage in NY subways can be a challenge. I suggest car service or taxi to a store that can hold your luggage (Schwartz Travel) while you sightsee. Afterwards you have several options on reaching the airport. Rare Got2Cruise Posted February 24, 2019 #7 Share Posted February 24, 2019 Use Google maps to help guide you to the subway. And then after you get out of the subway. It will even tell you which stop to get off and walking directions when leaving the subway.

No luggage or airport will be involved. Edited February 24, 2019 by thinfool
Rare Turtles06 Posted February 24, 2019 #10 Share Posted February 24, 2019 OP, beside the info you've gotten above re getting around on the subway, here's a great, free app that works off-line; it not only has the subway map on it, but will help you plan your route: https://www.mapway.com/apps/new-york-subway/

Just did ..... 12 hours from disembarkation could mean getting a late flight or traveling further locally,
