Rare vacationlover_mn Posted March 28, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 28, 2019 Do my friend’s 12 & 14 year olds need a passport for Cococay (and Nassau)? Are they ok with just their birth certificates? They are only doing excursions via the cruise line. Thx!
CruiserBruce Posted March 28, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 28, 2019 If you are doing a cruise that starts and ends in the same US port, all they need is their birth certificates.

Rare vacationlover_mn Posted March 29, 2019 Author #4 Share Posted March 29, 2019 Should they take the birth certificates off the ship at Nassau?

This is true of all Caribbean ports, except probably Cuba, and most ports in the world. Few require you to take your passport off the ship. Adults need to take photo ID off, like a driver's license. Loonbeam Posted March 29, 2019 #6 Share Posted March 29, 2019 Note that while you do not NEED a passport, it is highly recommended. If there is an emergency or diversion however, you will not be able to fly home without assistance from the US Embassy

cb at sea Posted March 29, 2019 #8 Share Posted March 29, 2019 If you aren on a "closed-loop" cruise, and are AMERICAN, you don't need a passport at all. If you have one, you don't need to take it ashore. Coco Cay is part of the ship.....all you will need is your seapass/ships key to get off and on the ship. The key issue is being a US citizen, by birth or naturalization. But I know you won't come back to answer or comment. And, by the way, you do need to be on a closed loop cruise...( my bolding on the quote).
