All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising). Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize. The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays. Post one. Post many. Up to you. Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others! AL3XCruise Posted April 7, 2019 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2019 Still playing with astro photos. This is Bode's Galaxy, about 12 million light years away. Not the greatest capture or editing job, but its the first galaxy picture I've taken that looks like a galaxy! About an 18 minute exposure. Rare pierces Posted April 7, 2019 Author #4 Share Posted April 7, 2019 Hailee's first prom. The first thing that went through my head was shock that her mother was letting my baby granddaughter go to a prom. The next was acceptance that she is now sixteen, a Junior in high school and has grown up to be as beautiful outside as she is inside. Lastly was the realization that the job of recording that fact well enough to do her justice was not going to be easy. The venue that she and her friends had chosen had a major removal of its decorative foliage and looked more like an urban strip mall than the verdant winery they remembered. As it turned out, my concerns were groundless. The subject would have outshone the Hanging Gardens of Babylon as a backdrop. The dunes are fantastic and despite me going there on a regular basis (you'll see them all the time on my Instagram feed), they still amaze me. Sunset and sunrise at the dunes are one of my favorite things to see.

Finally got them done, so here are some of the local wildlife for this past Saturday in the wetlands: Northern parula with a caterpillar grub meal: Green heron swallowing a fish for a quick lunch: Newly hatched red-winged blackbird chicks begging for food: Eastern screech owl peeking out of her palm-tree-trunk house: Black and white warbler on a branch: Closeup of a cormorant showing his Caribbean-sea-blue eyes:
