Which side of ship best for Glacier Bay?

Does it matter which side of the ship your balcony is on to get a good view of Glacier Bay?

Not really.  When you get to the glaciers, the ship will do a 180 so both sides can see.  However, it's best to be on the top decks or bow for a better view.

For Glacier Bay, try NOT to be in your cabin.  The sights are great on both sides as you sail up to the glaciers, and you can't beat having the far more expansive views you get on deck.  While the ship will do a 180 so that you can see the glacier no matter what side you're on...I truly believe that's no substitute for being on deck.

If you MUST though, from our experience on the Bliss a couple of weeks ago, the PORT balconies would have had the longest views of the Margerie glacier.  We stayed there an hour, but the ship mostly stopped in place and didn't spin until 45 minutes had gone by, meaning the Starboard side got shorted.  On the way out of the bay, the starboard side got the best view of Johns Hopkins and Lamplugh glaciers, though.  But we didn't spend a very long time at either.

It doesn't matter a bit, but do yourself a favor and don't stay in your cabin or on your balcony. Go  topside so you get the whole experience.

The couple of days that you are onboard before reaching the glaciers - SCOUT out the viewing opportunities

Look for the view points with less or no ship superstructure for those clean shots

The Bow deck being open realize that it will be crowded - think about an extension to a selfie stick for the camera

something to periscope over the heads of the crowd - think about using the video mode on your camera device

Concerned about those cold weather issues scout out the nooks and crannies out of the wind but with a viewing

angle - be prepared to go to an alternative spot weather changing or crowds having found your secret location

There maybe places on a Promenade deck to get sheltered photos

Do the research - plan - ask ???s

Bow shots coming into the glaciers -

Stern shots leaving (telephoto lens ? )

Ask questions of the 180-360 spinning in place - how long which rotation direction

Cameras phones other devices make sure your batteries are fully charged -

Memory cards have ample space to store all the data

Don't forget Binoculars as a visual aid

Plan on that flash fleeting moment getting that memorable photo

Anticipate getting chilled a bit to get that shot

"don't" has great advice, and the first (I think) to point out that the ship will most certainly do a 360 rotation, as both of ours have.

Cold weather kills any battery, so I would suggest having a backup battery in your (warmer) pocket and sheltering the camera as much as possible.

Also agree with using Video, as most software allows grabbing a still shot from a video. You never know when the glacier will calve, so if you have video running you could catch it, and for video, wait for the sound!
