  1. This is not the fault of anything onboard, but rather Singapore overreacting to a few cases of COVID that have popped up on shore.
  2. I received the survey a week after booking that asked about why I chose to book now, my feelings about COVID and restrictions, and asked about vaccinations at the end. It specifically said my response would not be tied to any personal information.
  3. Given the current state of the industry, they will likely spend the minimum amount possible on required maintenance only.
  4. Another factor is how much FCC you have to use. In my case, a Veranda stateroom didn't use up all my credit but a Concierge stateroom would have required a couple hundred dollars extra, so instead I took the Elevate package for only about $40 over my credit (which the benefits more than make up for).
  5. The bill was never bipartisan, so it really didn't stand a chance.
  6. Typically those would be released in the fall, but the release schedules have been a bit less predictable in the past year.
  7. If the answer was as simple as cruise lines requiring the vaccine and being allowed to sail, they would have done it already. The problem is they are at the mercy of the CDC and the conditional sail order. People say the CDC cannot require the vaccine, so instead they require a bunch of other rules and regulations that the cruise lines feel is too burdensome. Not only that, but the CDC has been dragging their feet issuing guidance and allowing even test cruises to get going. All the CDC rules are based on the assumption that no one is vaccinated, and even if the cruise lines did mandate th
  8. I saw a Crown Loft on Oasis in November pop up today for under $5,000 and jumped on it. Not sure if it will sail or not, but I'm hoping at least to be able to L&S to next year if nothing else.
  9. Despite putting a dedicated suite area on Spectrum, they went back to the usual arrangement on Odyssey. This seems like a China-specific concept, and it would not surprise me if they went back to the traditional layout for Oasis 6 (assuming it doesn't go to China too).
  10. Global Entry is great for air travel. It usually takes less than 60 seconds to get through immigration. They don't even use the fingerprints anymore - you just take a photo of yourself and it gives you a receipt with your personal information to hand to the officer. A quick check of your passport and you're on your way.
  11. St Maarten and Grand Cayman are at least 2 sea days apart and rarely appear on the same itinerary, so port calls on back-to-back dates indicates at least one of them is just a placeholder.
  12. The terms and conditions state you must remain registered through August 6, 2021 or they will take the points back.
  13. Lift & Shift is still offered when Celebrity cancels or redeploys a ship, but only for 2 weeks. They've added more flexibility to the length of the sailing and will prorate the fare at the same daily rate if the new cruise is longer or shorter. A few rules still apply: 1. You can only Lift & Shift to the same class of ship. Going from S-Class to E-Class is not allowed. 2. The sailings are limited by region, but not specific port. For instance, I was offered Iceland or Baltics as a replacement for Norway, but not Spain & France. 3. The sailing must depart
  14. I'm up to 31 points now and have yet to set foot on a Celebrity ship. Unfortunately, that rules out the latest points offer for me.
  15. I haven't seen much speculation on the potential itinerary for Leo 1's first winter, so I compared existing ship deployments in Winter 2021-22 and Winter 2022-23. The one thing that stands out is for 2021-22 Escape alternates east and west itineraries from Port Canaveral, but in 2022-23 it goes east exclusively. This leads me to believe Leo 1 will be placed on Western Caribbean (GSC, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel) from Port Canaveral for its inaugural season. All the other standard 7 day itineraries are accounted for, and NCL has consistently put new ships on 7 day Caribbean itineraries fo
  16. I figured he'd be going to Odyssey, but with the comment that he'll be flying to America RCI must be anticipating being allowed to operate in U.S. waters relatively soon.
  17. Wonder is most likely China (Phase 2) the week of April 5, subject to change.
  18. 20% has always been the standard deposit. I can't recall it ever being 10%, unless it was part of a limited-time promo.
  19. The ship most at risk of being scrapped is Norwegian Sky, as its sister ship from Costa is already headed to the scrapper.
  20. May is probably a 25% chance at best. There's no reason why they shouldn't have extended the 60 day final payment window offered last year. Anyone making final payment 120 days out is going to be at higher risk of being cancelled until there's more certainty over the reopening schedule. I finally took the refund last week as I don't see fitting a Virgin Voyages cruise into my schedule in the next 2 years.
  21. Joy is due for a required 5 year dry dock inspection in 2022. This is likely the window when that will be done. The refit for North America done last year doesn't change this timetable.
  22. The idea that cases ever can or will be driven down to 0 is a fallacy, nor do they need to be given the high survivability rates in the vast majority of people. There will come a time where COVID-19 is just another disease and the hysteria will die down. This will come through a combination of vaccination driving down the transmission rates and improved treatment methods increasing survivability in the more vulnerable. That will drive the return to normalcy both on cruises and on shore. The only uncertainty is the timeline, but hopefully we'll be there by the end of 2021.
  23. Edge is being moved onto the itineraries that Beyond was expected to operate (but never listed for sale). This is a clear indication that the launch of Beyond is going to be delayed.
  24. There is still a 6th Oasis class ship on the order books scheduled for delivery in between the first and second Icon class ships. It's possible they may try to get out of this order, but for now it still stands.
  25. I wouldn't book anything that requires final payment before cruises resume. Given the latest extension, that rules out everything through April 2021.
