JamieD Posted June 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2019 Our flight arrives in Long Beach, CA early in the morning of our cruise and our time to get on ship is 12. Anyone have some ideas what is nearby for food or other ideas to waste a few hours?
fabby50 Posted June 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 5, 2019 That's easy if you're at the port and don't want to Uber to the marina. The Queen Mary is right there.
MJSailors Posted June 5, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 5, 2019 There is an interesting review on this Carnival board written byJamman54. It details the travels taken by him and his wife for their 25 th anniversary. They took two cruises out of Long Beach and stayed there for a number of days. There are lots of photos and mention of places to shop, sightsee and eat. The review is now on page two of this forum. Check it out !
riffatsea Posted June 6, 2019 #4 Share Posted June 6, 2019 Hi, Not sure how early you arrive but you can definitely go to the port way before 12 noon! Folks start lining up around 10AM. You can go to a restaurant in downtown. You can go to the Queen Mary right next to the port. You can go to the Maya Hotel a little farther from the port. At each place you could have breakfast/brunch and then either uber/lyft or take the free shuttle from the Maya or walk from the Queen Mary. Ak4n3 Posted June 6, 2019 #5 Share Posted June 6, 2019 Back in 2012 and 2016, we went to the Queen Mary and toured the ship for free because we cruised Carnival. It was a good time to spend without being so far from the port. However, it looks like you need to buy tickets to tour nowadays...unless I'm mistaken. I couldn't find anything on the Queen Mary website about Carnival cruisers touring for free.
KeepCalmBearOn Posted June 6, 2019 #6 Share Posted June 6, 2019 I'd probably go to a Downtown LB Hotel for breakfast and chill there. Hyatt Regency Long Beach would be my first pick, followed by the Renaissance and Westin.
carol515 Posted June 9, 2019 #7 Share Posted June 9, 2019 We were just on a carnival cruise and saw a sign you can get free tickets to tour the Queen Mary, I’m not sure if that is before the cruise or after, you need to show proof you were on a cruise. Splinter Posted June 12, 2019 #8 Share Posted June 12, 2019 (edited) I actually don't like to be on the first crush of passenger that is usually standing in line for a long time when they first start boarding. You can drop of your luggage around 10AM, then head out and do something fun, then go back to the ship around 2PM and usually walk right on. Consider the Aquarium of the Pacific if you don't want to take the tour of the Queen Mary. The Aquarium will even let you store your luggage if you want to go straight there from the airport.
