Ditto, still do. Was playing with my G string about half an hour ago.

With the arthritis in my hands it’s a rare event now, played Violin and Bass too, so a few different G strings

Thongs used to be what we now call flip flops. Currently thongs are a sort of unfathomably uncomfortable underwear. What are they to you all?

Both actually, but mainly what you call flip flops, the underwear is more likely to be called a G string in my experience.

In an example of how American culture is costantly finding its way into Australian slang, we also use the term G-banger.  Not in relation to gang members but the bum flossing type of undies.

LOL, now there is an image that will take a few drinks to get out of my head.

It is bad enough here in the ACT where everyone thinks we only have poliies, fireworks and porn.

All I know is that without the visiting politicians, including the  "conservatives", the porn/escort industry would have gone broke long ago.  And we don't even get to annoy the pets and blow off our own fingers anymore!

Yep, the pollies keep a whole industry alive.

Also for all the rhetoric that Canberra is full of bloody politicians, only 4 of them actually live here!

By the way OP, don't even talk to th he pollies, they are all "drop kicks"!

G-banger hasn't made it up north, to my knowledge, although young people might say butt floss.

For drop kick I find this - is this correct and current? "An insignificant, contemptible or unfashionable person; a loser; used as a general insult." And, linguistically speaking, does this bear (can't believe I typed that) any resemblance to drop bear?

Sounds like a fair description, but nothing like a drop bear, which is a majestic creature that only kills tourists.

I saw drop bears got a mention in the Sunday Sun-Herald Traveller section, along with the famous New Zealand town of Waikikamukau, pronounced "why kick a moo cow".

When we toured NZ many years ago, our young boys loved pronouncing some of the town names. 'Wh' is pronounced as 'F' so the town of Whakawareware (I think I have the correct spelling) had an interesting pronunciation.🙂 It was the one time they were allowed to say something that sounded like the 'F' word and get away with it.
