Internet Plans - Change level mid way?

I searched and can't find this specific question. 

 

We are likely purchasing the Social Plan for our 5 day cruise on the Elation (sailing 18 days whoop whoop).  This allows us to check in via texting back home on important things.  Great.  

 

BUT if we find ourselves wanting to be able to do more a few days into the cruise - we are bringing our 16 yo daughter along and I am thinking about later in the evenings if she wants to chill and watch a movie on Netflix (meeting people at this age is a bit of a crap shoot) in the room while her dad and I are well shooting craps in the casino LOL can we adjust our plan midway.

 

The cost isn't bad in USD but once I convert the cost to my actual out of pocket to Canadian it is a bit much. So I don't want to commit to the full level right of the hop... only get it if needed. 

 

She is likely great without it - but I want to have all the info before we go. 

 

In 6 cruises we have only purchased the internet plan (social) once and that was our last one, only because DD's friend was with us and this allowed her to check in with her family at home.

 

But 16 year olds are well... 16 year olds LOL.

Yes, you can upgrade at any time. When you pull up the internet on the Hub App it will ask you. Just click the button and go.

the wi-fi package has nothing to do with the Hub App. To answer the OP, we need to know what ship. Most ships are not fast enough to stream even on the top level

Netflix is only officially supported on the Vista, Horizon, Sunrise, and most likely the Panorama (it's not listed, but I don't think they've updated their FAQ's since it set sail).

 

You can upgrade to a higher plan, but I don't think you can go backwards again. Don't quote me on that, though. If she doesn't need the Social plan to start out, you could buy the Premium plan for her on a 24 hour basis. Premium is $25 for 24 hours if you don't buy it for the whole cruise.

If you think she might want to watch something on Netflix, just download a few things before you leave. You don’t need the internet then.

Exactly.  I download 7 or 8 movies from Netflix AND Amazon.  
Depending on the ship, internet is not strong enough to stream unless you’re on a newer ship.  Sunshine internet was barely useable during the day.  Lots of issues.

I have downgraded my internet and even completely cancelled it due to lack of performance.

me too on the Conquest, full refund and they still let me use whatever minimum signal was available.

Thanks everyone - looks like we will buy the basic, download some movies in advance and plan on that will be enough.  Likely the Elation - older smaller ship - won't have a strong enough signal for the top level so will save my $$

Sounds like a good plan. Even if the Elation has decent internet, it's not going to be sufficient enough to stream Netflix, so Premium would be a waste if that's all you wanted it for.
