If you use the "cancel for any reason option" you will get a credit which must be used by December 31th of the following year.  I will probably use this as my reason for cancelling and will get the credit not cash.  However the taxes and port fees will be reimbursed in cash.

I thought the “cancel for any reason” credit was only for 75% of the cruise cost.  I am a little confused.

Thanks

It depends on when you cancel. If you cancel before final payment is due, you get all of your money back. If you cancel after your final payment date, it is prorated by how late you cancel. I assume the OP is asking about the "cancel for any reason", so here is what I recently learned and did: Generally in the first month after FP date you "lose" a 10 percent cancellation fee and the other 90 percent is credited as a Future Cruise Credit. You then have to file a claim with the insurance company they use (Aon Affinity) to get back that 10 percent penalty fee. This is what I was told when I asked a Princess rep to explain how my Platinum insurance coverage works. Then, as time goes on closer to the cruise date, the cancellation fee increases to 50 percent, then 75 percent, and then 100 percent at the end (so at the end it would be a 100 percent Future Cruise Credit). The insurance claim process still applies until you get to the 100 percent cancellation fee. Princess recently changed this whole policy for people sailing in the next few months (it's on the website) due to the corona virus situation, so it would also depend on what your cruise date is.  We weren't sure about sailing in June with all of this going on and didn't want to deal with the insurance claim process/Future Cruise Credit so we canceled (way before our final payment date, which Princess also recently pushed up to 60 days before cruise date) and are waiting for our money to be refunded.

I have the premium insurance and feel it is a medical issue as the cdc are telling people over 60 not to go on a cruise due to health problems. This would mean a full credit on card instead if a future cruise credit

So - our situation is this.

1) We are booked on a Norway Fjords 8-day cruise in July through an offer for a free oceanview room from Princess Casinos

2) We bumped up to a balcony and paid the upgrade fee

3) We have Princess EZAir but paid for early ticketing so we could pick seats

If we were to cancel (we also have the Platinum insurance) does anyone know how that would settle? The ports/fees would be a direct refund. I think the $100 deposit would be credit. What would happen w/ EZAir/the balcony upgrade/the price of the insurance?

I believe when you pay the upgrade fee you also pay the extra insurance fee for the difference.

So your upgrade would be covered at the total price you paid including the EZ Air.

Then as stated if it was a covered reason 100% refund.

If it is a CFAR then a 100% FCC.

If your cruise isn't until July, you haven't paid final payment yet so could still cancel before that date and get all money back. If you choose to wait and still pay your final payment, you get into the Future Cruise Credit/cancellation fee situation.
