Air Tahiti Nui passengers headed for Regatta

Nancy, thank you so, so much for your encouraging words!  I did speak with Oceania just a bit ago, and I had the person check on this current sailing.  He said there have been no port cancellations, and none scheduled for next week either.  Not sure if this is true or not.

We do have plans to stay a few nights at the Hilton Moorea prior to the cruise, so wondering if we just extend our stay there and try to head over to Bora Bora as well for some time.  I would so miss the Regatta, though, but want to keep everything in perspective.

Karen,

I think you would have a fabulous time in Moorea and Bora Bora. They both capture the essence of Tahiti to me. And the Hilton Moorea is wonderful. Hoping to hear back from TahitianBigKahuna who is on PG now, to see if he is missing any ports. I'd hate to see you miss O too! It has to be a monumental decision.

Which of their stops have been cancelled?

On the March 5 board for Regatta, the last post just says that 3 ports have been cancelled.  I've posted to ask for more information.

Hi again Nancy.

I think the confusion is that the poster put that up on Feb 27. He or she was referring to the cruise immediately proceeding their March 5 cruise that was Auckland-Papeete. And they did miss ports in Fiji and Samoa but none in Tahiti. Now I could have that wrong but pretty sure that's what that poster was referring to. I spoke with the owner of a B&B in Papeete and also our tour provider in Bora Bora March 4 and 5 and they both said all ports were open.

I believe that you are right. I think it was Terry but I also seem to remember that they missed Raiatea and went to Taha’a instead?

Yes must have been Terry's cruise. I'd rather do Tahaa anyway- you're a little closer to the Coral Gardens than Raiatea.

Hi Nancy.  Take a look at the response to the 3/5 board to my inquiry for more information and let me know your thoughts.  Thanks.

I've just read Terry's report again, they had 2 Samoa's cancelled and Huahine (which was a replacement port) because all cruise ships have to enter FP through Papeete first. (which was decided whilst they were already cruising).

I see no cancellations for any of the ports that we are visiting on the Mar 25th cruise.

I guess we will only find out when the Mar 5th and 15th cruises return..

I appears that the cruise where ports were cancelled is not reflective of any of the season's remaining French Polynesia cruises, so let's try to remain calm unless or until we receive definitive word that there are planned changes to upcoming itineraries.

The poster was quite cranky about Oceania. Like O could do nothing right. The thing is there has been a very popular thread here from Terry in Ohio who was on the same cruise and he had a spectacular time- and documented it with gorgeous photos. There were some problems but mostly related to the evolving nature of response to the virus. I read Terry's account with relish.

When Jaegr said the food quality has gone downhill he especially lost me. My mouth was watering after I saw Terry's food porn pictures. If you've not read his account take a look. I think his upbeat nature had a lot to do with the terrific time he had but the pictures say a thousand words.

I'd love to know what you think.

Just got an email from Air Tahiti Nui. NOW it looks like only passengers from the usual countries are required to have a medical certificate from a health professional 5 days prior. And NOW all other passengers are only required to download the form and "self-certify" their good health.

The individual seems unhappy and isn't posting enough detail to determine the actual situation.  I just spent time on the phone with my booking agent who is going to investigate further and let me know tomorrow what she finds out.  Take care.
