Okay, here's a pretty obscure one, but something tells me this group might know it!

Pretty lady, look at me,
I'm a sailor from the sea.

I can take you anywhere,

You can join me if you dare.

And she said:  "Sailor, come with me.

Is it lonesome on the sea?"
(Humming because I can't remember the next two lines!)

Love is harder than a diamond

And as soft and pure as gold.

And as sweet as any secret

Any sailor ever told.

I think I’ve heard it before, but may be way off base.

Was it by Kinky Friedman or

Robert Earl Keen?

Fun! I’ll play:

All I need is the sea and the sky and I know where I stand
Instead of you hicks straight out of the sticks deciding I ain't a man.
You'll never understand.
Up here I'm a whisky bum but down there I'm a king.
Sounds just like the angels up in heaven when they sing...
welcome home, welcome home. Such a sight to see.
Instead of some Salvation Army sister singing "Nearer My God To Thee."

This song was on an old James Taylor album I owned from maybe back in the 70’s

i have no idea of the title.

Had to go into the old memory files and the title finally dropped into my mind: "Captain Jim's Drunken Dream"

And that song reminded me of this song's chorus which, unfortunately, was a sometimes too accurate problem on those tiny tenders used when I first started cruising (and the condition of the passengers on my Carnival Cruise):

"And by chance found a bottle in my fist

And there I stood nicely passin' 'round the whiskey

But the passengers were bound to resist"
