My pleasure! Any other questions? Ask away!😊

ok, here is my next question.  Did you feel there was enough to do onboard the ship?  I've never done a river cruise; so next year will be our first.   I assume you are worn out by touring all day; by the time you arrive back on the ship; you eat dinner and call it a night.

Hello again!😃

Yes. We actually found it was the perfect amount to do for us.

However.. if you like a busy nightlife on a cruise then you might not feel the same way.

Each morning we were up early and the day was full with whatever tour you chose. If the tour was in the morning then we would walk around the town in the afternoon usually returning to the ship around 4ish? Then you have maybe an hour or so of downtime before you go to the lounge for the sip and sail between 5:30 and 6:30ish.  Dinner was around 7 and done by 8:00 or 8:30. After that we were very happy to just go back to our cabin and sit on our computers for the rest of the night.  Some passengers went to the lounge for an after dinner drink and more socializing but we never did.

Also 2 nights during the week there were after dinner activities like a wine tasting which we didn't even go to just because we were tired from the day and happy to go back to the cabin and relax.

I felt it was a slow but steady pace.. just the right amount of activity and downtime.😃

Totally agree, I experienced similar on my Avalon cruise. This highlights a major difference between ocean cruising and river cruising. Unlike ocean cruising there are no "sea days" on a river where you need to fill in time.

Yes, there can be major culture shock for ocean cruisers trying their first river cruise.  No casino.  No shows.  No bingo.  The daily rhythm described above is accurate, and you either love it or hate it.  Of course most people on this forum love it [myself included], but it's better to go in knowing what to expect!

There is a list of things in Viking brochures that is something like "What a Viking River Cruise is NOT".  It's pretty much a list of the things that would annoy me to death on an ocean cruise ship!  For us the pace is perfect----arts, culture, history, etc all day, nice quiet restful evening.  Repeat as needed.  Packing/Unpacking only once, it's like a land tour but you're taking your hotel and restaurant along with you!

In fact, I'm thinking that repeating a river cruise itinerary might be a good thing – because then I could declare a 'sea day' when that repeated schedule starts to wear me down!

We sailed twice with Uniworld on the Rhine/Moselle. There were different excursions to try and as you said, we could also take a day off and not feel like we missed out.
