“Book with Confidence” and cancellation

Hoping for some advice and views on whether I have got this right.

We are booked on Sky for 30th April 2022.  We’ve paid a non refundable deposit of course.  It’s looking very likely we are not going to be able to go on that sailing.

I’ve looked at Princess’ site and their book with confidence info-

https://www.princess.com/plan/cruise-with-confidence/cancellation-final-payment-policy/

My understanding is if we cancel now we lose the deposit.

If however we pay the balance at 90 days we could then cancel between 90 and 57 days and the normal cancellation charge of 25% of the cruise fare would be given back as a future cruise credit with the remainder of the balance refunded to us.

If this understanding is correct we would then use the FCC and book another cruise later in the year.

Do people think I’ve got my head round this correctly and this is the way we can avoid losing our deposit?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure what type of booking you have but I have a casino booking and we are scheduled to sail Feb 28th .  I emailed Princess Casino yesterday and they responded that   I have to cancel 30 days prior to sailing to receive my deposit back in full.  This is in accordance with the book with confidence.

I was about to ask how you managed to book with Non-Ref deposit and then took a second look.  You are in the UK.  Rules are different there for Princess.  Suggest you read the UK rules for the Cruise with Confidence and your Passage Contract.  If it doesn't look good, contact Princess and try out a shaggy dog story and see if they won't give you the deposit - or some of it - as FCC to be used by some expiry date.

Hi, sorry I don’t know what you mean “take a second look”. Rules are different in the U.K. and deposits are normally non refundable. The link I posted for the cruise with confidence covers U.K. bookings which is where I got my understanding, right or wrongly, from.

I’m guessing you are not in the U.K. where deposits are non refundable?

My second look was at your post and I noticed your location under your handle name indicated UK.  So, I know things are different there - including the deposits.  The rest - understood.  Hope something can work out for your benefit.

Hi - I think you’re right with what you describe. Will have to make final payment to invoke ‘Book with Confidence’.

If you have an idea of what other cruise you would want to move to it might be worth ringing Princess first to speak to them. I was told that you might have to pay a new deposit on the replacement cruise while the refund was being processed & the FCC built. And you have to use the FCC & sail by the end of Dec 22 so time could quickly run out. You’ll probably be charged £100 admin fee to amend the booking but that may be better than paying over another 15% deposit. Any cruise after 30th April is not covered by Book with Confidence so another deposit might be at risk. We’re in a similar situation - just waiting & watching for now 🤞

Is anyone familiar with the Book with Confidence clause on PCL?  It says if you don’t feel well you can cancel up to 30 days before your cruise and get FCC 100%.  What does that mean?  Just anxious about the covid19 or have it?

Not specific.  Has anyone done this?

What happens to the insurance paid through PVP insurance by Princess?  Do you lose it?

What I want to do is rebook my cruises

so I don’t have a 2 day between ships,

instead stay on the same ship.  All because of covid.  Taking more of a chance of getting infected by switching ships in the middle.  No problem with availability, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Today I cancelled our booking for 9 April as final payment was due early January. I am in UK.

We have got a FCC of the deposit. Have not yet decided on a new booking. Had no problems.

Also worth saying that I telephoned just after 8am and spoke to a person within about 2 minutes. (However, I did choose the "make a booking" option even though I just wanted to cancel.) Never had such a quick response before.

Was the FCC deposited right away and shows in your account?

TIA
