Slots Tournament in November 2022 on the Rotterdam

So, I am looking at 30 November 2022 – 11 December 2022 on the Rotterdam.

Just checked the future bookings and charters (Thanks @VMax1700!) and found that on the above cruise is a S. Caribbean $50k Slots Tournament.

My question is specifically for those who have cruised on a tournament cruise, how is it for those that don't use the casino?  I visit the casino and play slots with a limit of around $20. - $50. per day, but the people we will be travelling with don't spend time in the casino.

Do you think they will still enjoy their cruise?  I saw on the December 2021 posts that slots were in the Ocean Bar, but that doesn't concern us as it's not a place that we would be hanging out in anyway.  If I'm not part of the Tournament will I still be able to play in the casino?  Wil we be in the way?

Not sure if our cruising partners will want to book it if it's all slots, all day, everywhere.

We were on the Rotterdam Dec. 1st, 2021 for a similar Slot Tournament ( and will be back on the Nov 30, 2022 cruise.   There were more players in the casino, but the remainder of the ship was normal and we loved it.  There were slots by the Ocean Bar that cruise, but we were on a back 2 back, and the next cruise the Ocean Bar lounge was free of slot machines.. Entertainment and food were excellent.  DW and I participated in the Tourney, but our Adult Son never spent time in the Casino and enjoyed the cruise.

I, too, was on the 12/01/21 Rotterdam cruise. I am a reformed smoker and found the casino unbearable due to smoking. The smoke permeated throughout decks two and three (public spaces/Music Walk/Shops, etc.). I filed a complaint as did others. On our last sea day, early in the afternoon I went to the casino to play "craps" for 30 minutes (winner) when the casino was not busy and the smoke was bearable.

I understand the casino is now nonsmoking. How long is anybody's guess? I pointed out to HAL that 80% of U.S. citizens are nonsmokers. How many of them are gamblers? Who knows? If they are like me then there is no visit to the casino.

There were about a total of 1,700 passengers aboard. 500 were in the slots tournament (I thought I heard those numbers). That was about 2/3 of Rotterdam's capacity in total. The numbers were skewed because of the capacity so no venues were adversely affected. Exception being the Ocean Bar that had slot machines installed for the tournament (non-smoking area).

None of the other venues were affected by the numbers of people on board except positively. At full capacity, who knows, but the tournament should not have an adverse effect. Do not let it be a deciding factor.

May 2022 is the latest one posted.  I hope to update the information over the coming days and post the updated issue before end of July.

The casino has been back to smoking for a while. RCL did 3 test cruises where they did not allow smoking in the casino. On all 3 cruises their casino revenue was down sharply. I am sure HAL gathered some info from that.

Smoking and gambling seem to go together.  When you stop smoking in the casino of course you will lose revenue.  I do not like smoking in the casino either, but I understand why they allow it.

I understand the economics but to me it is illogical. Do only smokers like to gamble? I am not currently a smoker (not for over 40 years) but I like to gamble in a nonsmoking setting. Woe is me!

If you understand the economics then it should not be illogical. It is always about the money!
