Entertainment on non-expedition ships

Hi all,

We love cruising with Silversea but all our cruises so far have been expedition where there’s very little evening entertainment…..no casino etc.

We’re now thinking of trying a non-expedition cruise to use up some credit from cancelled cruises. We’re wondering what we can expect in terms of entertainment on those? I’m specifically looking at cruises on the Whisper and the Muse.

On Muse and Whisper, for the theatre/Venetian Lounge acts, you can expect a sextet of Silversea Singers (3 male, 3 female) who do themed revues -- lite blues/R&B, show tunes, all-duets, etc. 1 male and 1 female will also be trained opera singers, so you can expect an opera night as well. [Note: in my experience, sometimes they blend beautifully with the other singers, sometimes they don't.] Some of the singers may have a solo show, which seem to rotate among them. The cruise director may also have a solo show on the Whisper, but not the larger Muse. Sometimes the first night on board is a movie night.

Sometimes there are surprise special guests, like two contemporary cellists who performed for a few days on the Shadow in Asia.

On the Muse, you'll find jazz vocals (sometimes just instrumentals) in Silver Note, which is open for drinks and super inventive (delicious!) tapas.

Otherwise, the Silver Trio (keyboard, drums, guitar) show up pretty much everywhere there is a performance going on, and there will likely be two additional lounge musicians playing in bar venues -- at least one piano, and often a guitarist as well. There's also a DJ who spins nightly in the Panorama for dancing.

I'm not a casino person, so I can't speak to that, but I know both ships have one hahaha.

That's all I can think of for now. Anyone else?

I have seen some very good shows........just one person's opinion. Depends on the ship and who the performers are.......some folks have excellent voices.  We all have different expectations. I have met some wonderful folks from the Voices of Silversea.  Are they going to Broadway? No probably not. But I have enjoyed many shows.

One of the side effects of the covid lockdowns is that really good performers are not getting work on Broadway or the West End. Some of them have decided to join cruises as a way to keep employed. We had a couple of superb singers on our Silversea cruise in the Caribbean over Christmas and New Year. They were definitely Broadway standard. Their rendition of "Phantom" was to die for.

With regard to Whisper, you'll also have music in the Bar and Panorama Lounge before dinner, and then you'll have more music in the Bar after dinner and before the DJ starts.

On our December Whisper sailing, they did a few special shows in both the Bar and Panorama.

OOO! That all sounds good to us! We're not big entertainment folks but a little music before or after dinner and a show or two in the evening is good enough for us!

We've been on the Spirit twice and this will be the first on the Whisper. Chose it for the itinerary, not so much the entertainment!

We're very much the same.  In fact, we're far more likely to just enjoy the music in the bar or lounge rather than go to a show (but we've seen some good ones!)

There also was afternoon music by the pool on sea days and embarkation day, and there was a pool party one night.  I don't recall if there was live music by pool otherwise, but I don't know if I should trust my memory that much!

We'll be on a fairly chilly northern run (Iceland to NY) the first part of Sept. so there may or may not be any action by the pool, however there's always the hot tub(s)! Could prove nice in the Greenland fjords!
