Gift cards and another OBC recent cruisers ?

Has anyone been successful in using Carnival gift cards on board for paying your ship account bill, that were purchased on shore, like at a grocery store?

OBC, has anyone recently been successful at cashing out OBC at the casino, through the slots?

I need personal experiences of success and or failures, not hearsay.

Please and thank you.

Carnival gift cards purchased locally at stores are the same as those purchased online thru carnival.com or discount sites. I've used both physical cards & ecards onboard. Added most they kiosk & on the rare occasion when kiosks were down guest services added then. This was on the Dream & Vista, most recently in January. No issues with any

Thanks.

With gas prices at an all time high, I can purchase the gift cards locally and get 4x the points toward gas and then points on a credit card we use for travel.

Win, win all around.

Now the OBC casino question.

1 month and counting.

We went to Guest Services and added CCL gift cards we had purchased at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Just hold onto the physical cards themselves - we had a problem once where one wasn't showing up on the account, and we had to present the card again in order for them to fix the problem.  Make sure you get a print-out from GS showing the cards were added.

We have loaded gift cards to our account at Guest Services several times with no issues. The kiosks never seemed to work well for us. We purchased gift cards at our local grocery that was offering a promotional coupon for $5 for every $50 purchased, and then we used our Chase card to purchase those, which was running a 5% cash back promo. A win-win!

My husband transfers OBC to his Sail and Sign card on a slot machine and then plays with some of it, then cashes out in traditional fashion. You do have to play some, I think...you can't just move it all over and then directly cash it out.

Hope that helps!

I believe if you use a gift card on the S&S, you get it back in gift card form.  We have used gift cards with no issues, even with spending in the casino.  I paid for our upcoming and last cruise with ecards I purchased from an online site I use where I get 7% cash back.  I will purchase enough to cover the low end of what we think we'll spend on the ship so we spend it all.

About a month ago I had a gift card (received at home prior to my cruise) that I applied to my account at guest services.  Initially guest services told me it had a zero balance after scanning it, but after I told them I was sure it had $100, they somehow checked it again (possibly through a card reader) and then confirmed it did have the funds available.  They applied it to my account and gave me a receipt.

So I can charge casino to the room and the gift card wiill pay for it?

If there is a balance at the end then I can cash out at the casino thru the slots?

Thanks.

My son cashed out his OBC through a slot machine two weeks ago on Valor (last day of cruise, needed cash to tip our great wait staff) with no problems, and in fact he won $30 on his one and only spin.

You can indeed use your OBC to play in the casino.  I used much of mine in the casino last week. However, since people are trying to "cash" out OBC with a spin or two in the slots and then going to the cage to get cash, that payout is marked as casino "winnings".  The casino is operated separately from Carnival so you are trying to have the casino pay out a Carnival benefit.  Some Casino Managers are not allowing it since Carnival isn't reimbursing them.  The casino needs to pay Carnival for the DOU "free drinks" and Carnival reimburses the casino for the current Platinum/Diamond $25 "Free Play".

You can charge anything to your account and use gift cards to pay down your account.
