Ease of Swapping Cabin Mates?

Friends would like to join us on a sailing of the Mardi Gras. As previous Carnival cruisers, my DH and I were able to get a much lower fare than them. Saving a few hundred dollars is significant. If my DH and I book each of us in a cabin to obtain this rate for both cabins, what would be required to switch cabin mates upon arrival? Will this be an easy switch? Would we just go to Guest Services upon boarding and switch? Thanks for any advice or experience you can share.

We just did this with my parents since they are gamblers and get pretty good Casino rates and while we cruise a fair bit, we aren't big gamblers on cruises.  We booked me with my mom and my husband with my dad.  Went to guest services once we got our room keys (we are Platinum so the shorter guest services line was great for this)and they issued my husband and mom with new keys for the other rooms.  There were a couple of glitches, but minor ones.  I ordered cookies for our cabin but even though i ordered them under my name for me, they went to my parent's cabin, and they enjoyed them very much lol. (I didn't mind).  We also both booked a carnival kitchen class but the letter only went to my mother in her new cabin, not me (again not a huge deal).

I would definitely do it again if the opportunity arose, but the poster who mentioned the reliability of the other couple has a good point.

My main fear on this cruise was if any one of the 4 of us tested positive for COVID, none of us could go because of how we booked the rooms.  Fortunately it wasn't an issue.

Thanks everyone for your answers, points to ponder, and some laughs. I ended up calling Carnival and they were very helpful. They ended up offering our friends the same rate as us so we are all in the right cabins. Kudos to Carnival Customer Service!

Just in case it would come up, keep everything on one credit card.  I've been in situations where that was in the case and it was easy-peasy.  They just had to change names, not billing or account information, which may be more complicated.

Re your friends cancelling, perhaps having it all on your card, and them paying you in advance (no refunds) solves the problem without having to pay for insurance.  Their choice.

**You can change credit cards once onboard.
