Le Bistro's Lobster Thermidor (+$25): Gem no longer has the lobster claws

I was on the gem in Jan 2022.

Back then the lobster thermidor was only +$10 extra and the lobster claws were on top. (1st pic)

 

In Feb on the Getaway, the price increased to +$25 extra and no lobster claws.

Now in currently on the Gem: +$25 extra and no lobster claws.

Still delicious and a good choice for excess obc.

That looks really good.  When we tried it on the Getaway last year in Ocean Blue, I remember it was the traditional steamed lobster, with butter dip.  It was ok, and we had lots of OBC to use (before my wife decided to buy expensive skin lotions)

 

I heard NCL has trouble sourcing consistent quality lobsters and it's a challenge for the Food & Beverage manager  to provide good cooked lobster.

With supply chain issues, this isn't surprising.  I'll skip the thermador until it's straightened out.  Lots of other worthy choices 🙂

Claws go next door to the American Diner for the lobster rolls.

hm.. Explains why there's no lobster claws in my thermidor on the Getaway.

 

but there's no American Diner on the Gem. 

so no idea what they are doing with the lobster claws  now compared with 3 months ago.

Perhaps the only lobsters able to be procured were rock or spiny lobsters.  No claws.

FWIW, I just got off a 15 nighter Gem with 3 visits to Le Bistro, my fave.

 

There were claws out of their shell between the 2 lobster halves just as in the first photo above that came from Breakaway.  I had the Thermidor last Fall on BA and there were also the "claws" wedged between.

 

Going on Escape next week so not sure if I will try it again (!) but will peek around or ask the Restaurant Manager.  

 

Steak Rossini and this new veal chops really really good!

Steak and veal dishes are in Le Bistro?

We had the lobster at Ocean Blue (with claws). What a nightmare. The claws were not pre-cracked or scored. Just doing battle with the lobster at the dinner table. And not worth the effort.

I’m going to ruffle some feathers, but the two meals…Coq Au Vin and the Lobster Thermidor were two of the worst meals I’ve had in any venue on any NCL ship.
