Mykonos Ship Excursion

Hi.  We are on the August 8th Beyond sailing with a stop at Mykonos.  We have a ship excursion booked that starts at 12:30pm.  We arrive in Mykonos at 7am.  It is a tender port.  Does anyone know if you can go ashore early to walk around and then meet your tour on the pier instead of meeting on board to be escorted off?  Thanks.

Sorry i do not know, but recall it was not a bad tender ride to shore.

Are you going to a beach? Wish we had added that on..

I hope you can explore  the port first..why lose half a day?

Mykonos port area is such a great place to walk around in.

Great shops of all kinds ( art, jewelry, clothing, crafts) ,  taverns, windmills etc. The color of the water is so beautful. The people we met were warm and happy!

Hope you can do the excursion and enjoy port

I have heard of people letting the shore excursion desk know in advance that you would like to meet the group where the tenders unload.  I'm sure you won't be the only ones wanting to meet on shore.  Might be a good idea to ask where the group is meeting for your particular excursion.  May be onshore anyway.

What is your tour ?, some tours start on tenders direct from the ship. My advice is to wait until you are on board before making any plans. We have been to Mykonos three times with Celebrity on Solstice, Reflection and Edge. Each time advertised as tendered but on two of those visits Solstice and Edge actually docked at the main ferry port where most bus tours start from and is some way out of town needing a bus or ferry to get to the town. Looking at Mykonos port schedule for the 13th the only other ship on that day appears to be a sister ship Constellation and I would guess Beyond will dock despite having superb tender facilities.

If you do tender it's a very short hop to town or to the ferry port where you may have to meet the bus but it seems like you will have ample time to wander around town in the morning.

There is also a very cheap ferry from town to the ferry port.

Bit of a crap shoot.  As mentioned there is docking for 1 ship which then involves a "slow" bus ride to the main town (shopping area) and then a fairly long walk.  When ships tender they drop their guests a stones throw away from the entrance to the town.  Honestly, tendering here is far easier then docking.  Was in Mykonos in September on the Apex (Tendered) and then again last month on the Reflection where we were docked.  So, I guess you will have to play it by ear with the shore excursion team for the meeting area on the day of arrival.

Thanks.  I’m really hoping for tender service here as so much easier for town access.  Our tour involves bus transportation so am assuming that if we are tendering we can meet them on shore.  As noted by JBare, the only other ship that day is the Constellation and their itinerary says tender also which would mean neither ship is scheduled to dock at the other location.  Probably unlikely so I’m hoping it’s them and not us Beyond.

The 1st week of our B2B on Apex last summer we tendered in Mykonos---the 2nd, docked at the new port.  Who knows what your situation will actually be?  Unless you can make arrangements with ShoreEx ahead of time, I'd plan on being where the ticket says you should be.  I mean, how else will you get your cool colored sticker?

A couple of points, Beyond is bigger with more passengers so is more likely to dock. The buses mostly go from the dock so if you actually do tender, the tenders will likely take you to the dock if you are on an excursion, not the town, the ship will use two tender points, one for excursions and one for the town.

Also as I mentioned there is a ferry from the dock to the town called the Sea Bus, its great and its stops are right opposite the cruise ship and the same place as the tenders in town. Its a nice boat and you appear to have plenty of time to get to town and back, its far better than the bus ride.

Actually Beyond is too large to dock in Mykonos.  Tender only

That solves one problem for the OP, just needs to know where the tender will take them for their excursion, so as a couple of us have said, check when on board.

Having docked a couple of times at Mykonos myself, I believe your assertion to be false, demonstrably so in fact.
Bigger ships have visited this year as per this website.

What do you know that others do not ?

Thanks everyone.  Looks like I'll just have to wait until I'm on board to know for sure!

I think you may even have to wait until the actual day, it may be a case that first to arrive gets the dock or a discussion between captains. When we docked with the Edge, Reflection was also in Mykonos and tendering. In any event, wherever you are you have options and I believe plenty of time for a couple of hours to explore  the town and get back to the ship if necessary. This picture taken from the Sea Bus is the stop in town which is the same as the Celebrity tender stop which is just in front.
