How do you figure that?  I'm tipping the bartender or server when they give me my drink.  Where is the 2nd tip?

Because you said you never buy the drink package.  Paying for drinks already includes gratuity and you give them a buck or two beyond.

They said they get them from the casino (I believe complementary), so I assume they haven’t paid a gratuity (although I don’t know exactly how that works as I don’t use the casino).

Correct.  Complementary in the casino.  You receive a drink card for use in the casino or at the casino bar.  There are no pre-paid gratuities, and it includes bottled water, soda, and coffee which are not included in the standard free at sea drink package

but my original point was if you take care of your bartender, it goes a long way.  Even if I did have the drink package with pre-paid gratuities, I'd still give the bartender a buck or two.  Like others have said, do feel obligated, but do what makes you feel comfortable.  There is no right or wrong answer

Nothing at all to be confused about.  As was stated before, the ONLY correct answer to tipping is to tip whomever you want, however much you want, at any time you want.  End of stort. Kindly move long please.

Who the hell are you to tell someone to move along?  NCL's use of the DSC, without full disclosure, obfuscates the issue resulting in plenty of confusion.

Yeah, I see that now.  It wasn't mentioned in the original post that I responded to.

It only obfuscates it to the tin foil hat wearers and people who are looking for an excuse to remove the DSC or not tip anyone.  Tip whatever you want to tip any time you choose to do so.  There is no need to explain or attempt to justify how you tip.  Personally i could not care less what anyone else does as far as tipping.

Do you know who gets part of the DSC and how much they get?  Answer is "no".  So it is obfuscated to everyone whether you want to admit it or not.

Nobody asked for an explanation or justification of how people tip. LGinPA was simply looking for some clarity on an otherwise confusing topic.

Ah - I get it, it's all about you MoCruiseFan.  You don't care, so, no one else should.

You don't care.  Good for you.  I don't really care too much about tipping either.  That doesn't change the fact that it is not clear what becomes of the DSC.  I think a reasonable person would understand that lack of clarity could lead to questions about gratuities.  LGinPA was asking a reasonable question about gratuities that you rudely dismissed, I assume because you don't care about tipping.  LGinPA shouldn't get dismissed just because MoCruiseFan doesn't care about the topic.  If you really don't care, then what are you doing in a thread about Tipping?

How about this:  Rather than rudely dismissing peoples questions about topics that you don't care about, you just move along to the next topic and spare us all your careless thoughts?

i dont know if it's just my interpretation, but it seems that most (if not all) of mocruisefan"s. posts are negative and mean spirited. he/she doesnt seem to be a a 'cruise fan at all.

mocruisefan: before you get all huffy about this post, i concede its just my interpretation and i could be 100% mistaken.

to all that have asked, the dsc (allegedly) is distributed among the entire cruise staff. ( being a person that always sees the glass as half empty)i highly doubt that.

if you think that the dsc covers trips for your entire cruise, then dont tip any extra. if you want to tip anyone who performs any type of service for you, by all means do so. there is no right or wrong onthe issue of tipping. we always do, some people dont. it's strictly a personal choice
