We arrived shortly before 2pm on our Danube cruise that began in Nuremberg. We were welcomed aboard and invited to partake of the buffet lunch in the lounge area. We left our bags in a gathering area. Our cabin was not ready then so, after a bite to eat we walked up and down the pier looking at boats from other river cruise companies. Our Rhine cruise departs from Amsterdam with an all aboard of 5pm the first day. We plan on arriving via Thalys train from Paris in the early afternoon, dropping our bags, and then heading out and about. Our timing worked well for us as we had access to our cabin before the Prague add-on bus arrived. Those guests had a wait to be given their room keys, etc.
Rare Roz Posted August 24, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2022 I've not sailed Avalon, but most cruise lines will allow you to drop your bags so you can sightsee unimpeded.
gentlemancruiser Posted August 24, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 24, 2022 I've been on several Avalon cruises and they welcome you onboard anytime after 12pm. Rooms keys may not be given until 3pm when pre excursion guests arrived. In the case of Budapest, guests will be directed to a local hotel (Intercontinental Hotel) and then Avalon transfers you to the ship as a group. Some cities the docking locations can change or isn't easily accessible.
mhb1757 Posted August 24, 2022 #5 Share Posted August 24, 2022 On past Avalon cruises we arrived as early as 10:30 or 11 am. They have a nice lunch available before noon. We just checked in and left luggage and headed out on our own once and once we were flight weary and just relaxed in the lounge and had lunch until our cabins were ready.
Rare mskaufman Posted August 24, 2022 #6 Share Posted August 24, 2022 Not sure, but Viking seems accommodating. When we were leaving a van drove up around 7:30 am and dropped people off for the next cruise. They were ushered into the dining room for breakfast.
