Rare DaKahuna Posted September 6, 2022 Author #178 Share Posted September 6, 2022 Today was the first day we did not receive a paper copy of the Cruise Planner. Instead we received a QR code to scan. scanning the QR code gave us this link. https://minio.rccl.com/compass/cruisecompass.pdf (I hope the link works for you. )
Rare DaKahuna Posted September 6, 2022 Author #179 Share Posted September 6, 2022 Lunch today was in Izumi. It did not disappoint. Chicken kara agi miso soup Snow crab California roll Izumi Ryu Futomaki roll Baked Snow Crab and Dynamite roll The futomaki was unlike any futomaki I have ever had. I am not a fan of cream cheese in my sushi rolls and did not pick up on the fact that this had cream cheese in it before I ordered it.

When I get back to the room tonight I will see if I can download the document and post it as example. It was a 14-page document with much of the additional papers they use to supply in the room each night. This one had the show schedule I posted earlier as well as bio’s for the headliners. One small, but important question if I may.. Morning coffee. DW and I don’t get too far in the AM until we get our dose of caffeine. We’re in a standard balcony, so no in-room coffee maker, as I understand. Does the Solarium Bistro have self serve coffee? Our room is close.. Thanks Bxc53 - If things haven't changed since we last sailed (someone will correct me if I am wrong) but you can order Room Service Continental Breakfast with coffee for no charge (other Room Service is $7.95 I believe). So you can order croissants, muffins, danish, cereal, fruit, bagels, English muffins, toast and your coffee and then go for a full breakfast later (or not). My DH & I are the same - we do not go anywhere without having our coffee first.😁 Canuck 7 hours ago, DaKahuna said: Canuck, Great news for you, I spoke with Romana and she will be onboard until November. Continental breakfast is free. We had ordered hot food, eggs and sausage, etc.. I have not heard any discussions with regard to the engines. We have a very short stay scheduled for Ketchikan due to the distance to Skagway and speed restrictions. I think we are scheduled to dock at 0700 and all aboard is around 1100.

Thanks for posting. I know that many people still want a paper copy and don't want to be required to use a mobile device. I don't mind them doing this since we usually like to carry around a copy of the cruise compass so that we can see what's happening. Much easier to have it on our phones, which we carry anyway. I hope at some point they create a .pdf version that's better suited to small phone screens so that you don't need to do as much pinching and zooming. Rare DaKahuna Posted September 7, 2022 Author #191 Share Posted September 7, 2022 Today is a short port visit to Katchikan. After breakfast in the Coastal Kitchen we grabbed our jackets and walked off the ship. We proceeded to the Salmon Market and purchased the snoked salmon that we will give to family, friends, and neighbors. We then went to the drug store to get some mouthwash, we used the last of what we brought wiyh us this morning and I did not recall seeing any for sale onboard. Our daughter had asked us to pick ip a couple of t-shirts for our grandaughter so we got her two. We were back aboard and in our stateroom by 0910. I am sitting on our balcony people watching as we are on the starboard side overlooking the dock/pier. A couple of photo’s I took earlier.
Rare DaKahuna Posted September 7, 2022 Author #192 Share Posted September 7, 2022 Lunch today was again in the Coastal Kitchen. It was excellent. My wife had the lentil soup for he appetizer while I decided to try the fennel sausage flatbread (amazing!) For her main course it was the Green Vegetable Curry and I had the Roasted Lamb Loin. We both really like our dishes. Food porn:

My steward said they were going this way which I do not agree with. There should be some paper available as it can be recycled. I do not want to keep whipping out my phone for everything while on vacation. my steward said they would provide paper for those who really wanted it though in the future. Rare DaKahuna Posted September 8, 2022 Author #196 Share Posted September 8, 2022 While having a pre-dinner drink in the Suite Lounge we were fortunate to see a whale. The first we saw as the whale blowing when taking a breath. The next was a full breach. Both were in the distance behind the ship so did not see it again. Dinner in Coastal Kitchen was delicious! Rare DaKahuna Posted September 8, 2022 Author #198 Share Posted September 8, 2022 We are in Skagway today and due to the landslides in the dock area passengers are not allowed to use the dock so we are tendering. Since all aboard is not until 8:30 pm tonight, we have decided to wait until after lunch before catching the tender that will take us to the port. It appears to be a very short ride from the ship, around the jetty to the marina where they are disembark. Will post our experience with the process later but it appears to be working well as I believe they have called all of the 'ticket holders' for people who wanted to leave early.

Just returned from the Quantum. Tendering in Skagway was great; well organized and quick. We had six tenders in use the day we went so that was a big help. Hope your experience is a good one. Rare DaKahuna Posted September 9, 2022 Author #200 Share Posted September 9, 2022 As @Italy52 said, tendering was a breeze. We waited until after lunch, went dow to deck 2, presented our Seapass cards, and stepped onto the tender. We waited less tan five minutes before the tender departed the ship. About 5 minutes later the tender deposited us at the marina. There were free shuttle busses to the city center we elected to walk a little over 1/4- mile to the City center. The wind was blowing and there was a chill in the air but we had dressed accordingly so it was not a bad walk. Some shopping and then it was a leisurely walk back to the tender pickup point. We walked down the ramp and onto a waiting tender. About 10 minutes later the tender departed to the ship.
