Is it difficult to walk from the Holiday inn on Herbert walker Ave to the Princess cruise terminal or should we book a ride?

Princess operates from various terminals at Southampton,  so not really possible to answer your question.

I would just wait until you are ready to leave the hotel,  and then call a taxi  or Uber. You are talking less than £10.

I just googled the route and it looks like you should take a taxi.

Only City Cruise Terminal and Horizon Terminal are really walkable from the Holiday Inn which Princess don't or rarely use.  Depends which terminal you are going from.  The Southampton Cruise schedule site will tell you.

Really, regardless of which terminal you leave from, the walk is pretty long and uninspiring (and it will probably be raining!)

Why walk ? Just take a taxi.

The Holiday Inn booked a taxi the night before.  Very inexpensive and quick.

Not difficult if you don’t have luggage! It’s only about 1.5 km. But with luggage I would not recommend it. It cost us about

6 BP for a taxi from the Holiday Inn to the Ocean Terminal. The hotel booked it for us the night before. Very easy. We are doing a back to back so when we returned to Southampton, on turn around day, we walked from the Ocean Terminal to WestQuay (which is more or less across the street from the Holiday Inn) and it is a very easy and nice walk with no luggage.
