I wish they would.  I actually dislike the steel straws, and worry about children carrying a glass with one in it.

Everything can carry e coli. That's the main reason we wash our hands after using the bathroom.

A quick internet search reveals several injuries, some fatal, from using metal straws.  Here in Calif we are doing our part by replacing plastic straws wrapped paper with paper straws wrapped in plastic.  Cheers.
