Still updating about Tue 11 October.

After early dinner, the show and my first visit to the Lido to stock up on my late night snack I had time to visit the shop.

Sad to report that there are still no bears for sale. Only the plush ships.

There was a reindeer going for 50% plus 15% off, so I decided he would do nicely.
I was so taken by the deal I didn’t notice or realise that he’s actually a Swedish rather than Norwegian reindeer until I was back in my room.
(Today, Wednesday, 2751FBC9-D790-447B-A34B-3E54E6EF1F84.thumb.jpeg.d7571790bf4da0a1f68cbc7d3936ab88.jpegFCF1A4CC-CE2D-47A1-9B70-2FD8589183EC.thumb.jpeg.e96e3d91badcfa1655cee2e7c96d7106.jpeghe’s now 75% off!!!)

I’m liking the reindeer, but still no bears? My heart sank, but they have 59 days.

Very cute.  Does the reindeer have a name (either Cunard named or @photosg named)?  We'll look for one on our QM2 Norway voyage next month.

hmm, my cruiseship bears don’t really have names. perhaps victor/victoria? 😅

Apologies am trying not to spend too much on WiFi and it doesn’t work too well in my cabin anyway.

Am actually updating in the theatre while waiting for @AstroExeters lecture to begin. 😅

yesterday we had fabulous weather in Andalsnes.

They actually put on the new cable car for the ship so we managed to go up and down before lunch.

At about 2:30am the captain made a brief announcement in all our rooms. The northern lights were out.

bleary eyed I put on several layers of clothes and popped out into the corridor to join the sea of people heading out to deck 9 aft.

There we even more people already out on deck.

I stood there in the cold and dark admiring the moon and the stars.

I imagined there would be this collective sharp intake of breath when the auroras made their appearance. But I didn’t see anything.

After a while I got impatient and decided to move to deck 10. That’s when I noticed people looking at the images in their cameras.
I looked up and still nothing. But I took out my camera for a snap.B93F014A-B805-43CC-92E7-AA48E026ACFC.thumb.jpeg.6bcb195c69b2d4ea458a13d9c8504f68.jpeg

ohhhh!

Now I could see a vague grey mist.

so I snapped a few more…B093921E-F68D-445D-9AEE-AB3A5B46E780.thumb.jpeg.fc5c1779d6608c93371b6f72580b213e.jpeg3B7C4883-701B-4FE8-98C9-5B11408E97D6.thumb.jpeg.4373d005f10f72ada6a7d7c6a6967483.jpeg4762C021-189B-4EDD-8202-5CB6C3CFEC6A.thumb.jpeg.abe0660885b208abe48945a380c48ba5.jpeg

and then it started to cloud over again so I decided to call it a night.

Erk! After typing out my day for about half an hour it seems to have disappeared into the ether! My experience also, that the appearance in the sky is a grey, swirling mist.

Glad to got to have that experience - your photos look wonderful.

At 5pm our minibus appeared with an enthusiastic young Belgian to take us on our magical excursion. We were thankful for the waterproof boots and one piece thermal suits that kept us toasty while stargazing at a secluded beach. Our guide laid out reindeer pelts and built a little fire before preparing hot chocolate and a camp meal for us.0C587628-865A-479E-8EF2-12DC21AFC8DA.thumb.jpeg.5d0c6cfc29ba18c3f9da744133caf03c.jpeg1AB03E16-27E7-40F6-AE73-FD7317F4D3B9.thumb.jpeg.71ad7d986b32a0b248ad777a74b58073.jpeg9C900DA5-4E78-4E46-B352-F9B38A589C7D.thumb.jpeg.fc1c65d86e674df17253f6854b3df1cb.jpegD4FA432A-F467-4FAE-91AC-0DC6AEE4C956.thumb.jpeg.2987fbae96d6510cfc06f0a1297f4f59.jpegFE01D59C-417C-469B-9057-95563999F9DE.thumb.jpeg.79b4ed70f0d6760f7f3acfbd78e50a0a.jpegAC3D4631-E24D-45E2-8DF1-E23E2E7A47A8.thumb.jpeg.4df67b6e7eaf1586b17006d16ff059e1.jpeg36DCA494-ADDB-42F2-B093-53F2BE6C4A52.thumb.jpeg.15620573c39203d9719a82294bdbc67a.jpeg

about 20 minutes before we got back to the ship the lights put on a spectacular show so we stopped by the side of the road to get a proper look.

Be warned when the itinerary says overnight in Tromso (or Narvik) it just means the ship leaves after midnight. In our case this was 1:30am with all aboard at 1:00am. I heard a couple of passengers making their feelings about this known at the Purser’s office. So today is in fact a sea day rather than a second day spent in Tromso. (As you might reasonably expect.)0A1939FC-989D-4796-82AE-223B14FDB9F6.thumb.jpeg.7bb50471c46b1d8b48ef328def3da25d.jpegF53C5579-0C91-40C6-86B4-B96CA70B6833.thumb.jpeg.ff8858730ec0b6ad272c23f71dab7790.jpeg

It looks like the QM2 northern lights trip will have two evenings in Tromso - arriving mid day on Sunday, and leaving early morning [0130 ?] on Tuesday.

We have the ship's Northern Lights tour booked for Monday evening - likely does not include the same stuff [e.g. the coverall] as the smaller tours, but it will get us back to the ship on time.

Staggeringly  wonderful night photographs. Worthy of any commercial advertising blurb,  and your others are super, too.

Thank you

Oh oops. I neglected to credit the final vertical format photograph that was taken by our guide. (He also took photos of all in our group, so we have photos of ourselves with the lights in the background.) The rest were taken on my little travel camera. They’ve been enhanced a bit on the phone before posting but like I said in the earlier post they do not look as impressive to the naked eye. Thank you for your kind words.
