The explosion took place in Taksim Square, which is about 3/4 mile (1.4km) from where the Viking Star docked when we were there in April.  We didn't go to Taksim Square, but rather to the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, and the Grand Bazaar.  The Grand Bazaar is about 2.2 miles (3.6 km) from Taksim Square.

The IC is on Taksim Square which is where we stayed after a cruise. Quite a way from the Port though but potentially any cruiser or tourist could have been caught up in the attack.

Not to minimize the loss of life, but remember that your chances of being injured or killed in a terrorist incident are less than the same result occuring while driving to the airport for your cruise.

Hard to think of any place tourists go that has not had bombings over the last couple of decades..  Maybe Alaska.

I will now make it a point to avoid Charlottesville.  Between the torch march a few years ago with "good people on both sides" and now three football players shot, how can anyone ever conceive of going there!!!
