Taxi or car ride.

Other wise its Sky Bus  to Southern Cross ten hop on the Tram to the Port. Dooable but the Trams are crowded in Melbourne and probably cheaper if you organised a pick up from airport if there is many of you.

We have a group of 6 adults cruising on the Grand Princess last week of March and looking for the best option for transportation from MEL to cruise docks.   We fly into MEL around 11:30 am.

I don't think you have too many options other than what was suggested in the post above or a taxi van as long as you all plus your luggage fit in.

So you are coming on on an international flight the same day the cruise departs? Hope there aren't any major delays.

If you didn't have much luggage, you could do it by bus and tram. There is a 24 hour bus service from the airport to the city, called Skybus.  They cater for traveller's luggage. It cost $A22 per person and you can pay by credit card. It will take you to Southern Cross station in the city. You then need to walk a city block to the corner of Spencer Street and Collins Street, and catch a tram, the 109 to Port Melbourne.  The terminus of the 109 is right opposite the end of Station Pier.  To catch a tram, you need to buy a MYKI card, one for each person, which you can do at the station, and add some stored value.

It's a lot of trouble, the trams are not very friendly for people with luggage, especially in peak times. You won't save much money for the group.  I would catch a maxi taxi direct from the airport to Port Melbourne.

Agree that a maxi taxi is the answer. All being well, and if your plane arrives on time you should be walking out of the airport at around 12.30pm and at the port by around 1.20pm.

Another plus to the maxi taxi is that it will drop you on the pier, while the Skybus/Tram option requires a walk of a few hundred metres from the tram terminus.

Princess would also have a transfer you can pre-purchase, which would be a good option for one or two people. Times 6 people = much cheaper per person with the taxi. It also depends on how heavy you are travelling. If your luggage won't fit into the maxi taxi, they will split you into another taxi which will create two fares.

Good point.

Maxi taxi is the way to go, IMO.
