Have Princess OBC marked "Shore Excursion Credit" - can I use for other things onboard?

When I booked our March 2023 cruise late last year, one of the "perks" was a $100 per person "Shore Excursion Credit". That shows at Princess.com along with my Shareholder and Military benefit. I know if not used only the last OBC can be refunded .

However, we do not plan on taking any shore excursions through the ship, and I wonder if our $200 can be used for something else, such as the onboard gift shop, specialty dining, etc. I had planned to use that $200 for our airport transfers, but when I booked those my OBC was not deducted and I was told that would be charged to my credit card.

So, anyone lately had and used their Shore Excursion Credit for anything other than a Princess tour? My wife already informed me she will gladly burn it up in the casino if we can't find any other way. 😉

I would like to hear from someone who used that credit for something other than a shore excursion. My TA thought it would actually be "lumped into my non-refundable OBC". But he admitted he did not know. I thought someone here might have experience with a situation such  as mine.

If we must, we will take some shore excursion to use up that OBC, but I'd much prefer using it for something we want instead.

I used it for specialty dining, drinks (I do not have pkg), shuttle to airport, and a pair of tweezers. I did not book excursions other than a $19 shuttle (I'm a solo so I got 200 OBC which I used up)

I guess that is the answer until it is not.  Much like some OBC can not be used in the Casino.

At some point, someone is gonna state - wait - why do I owe and extra $200 on my folio???  I have a excursion credit that wasn't applied and on CC it was posted it could be used for all charges on board.

So far the Princess onboard systems do not distinguish how OBC is used.  As a result it can currently be used for all kinds of things that technically it is not supposed to be used for such as gratuities, Casino, etc.  The question is if Princess considers that to be a problem vs an advantage and if they consider it to be a problem when and if they move to fix it.  At which point it will only to be able to be used for purposes stated.

My CVP assured me that I could use the Excursion Credit as regular OBC for my cruise next month. As a matter of fact, when I look at my travel summary it’s showing as OBC and does not say excursion credit—says onboard credit promotion.

Made me look!! Mine says "Shore Excursion Credit" on the booking summary, "SHORE EXCURSION CREDIT" in the Travel Summary, but now says "Onboard Credit Promotion" in the Personalizer. I guess I'll know for sure soon

As for folio charge surprises: anyone not check their balances once or twice on a cruise?

I recently asked this same questions (this was the first time that my onboard credit specified "excursions"... and from all the responses I received it appears that we CAN use it for other onboard expenses, but it will not be refunded to us if not used.

Let's all hope this is how it works.  If it doesn't for someone, please report back here! My guess is, as someone stated above, it will work for any credit until it suddenly can only be used for an excursion.

As of right now it can be used for anything that any OBC can be used for. We used ours in Jan at the casino without any problem.

If it changes in the future, I'm sure people will make a comment very quickly here on CC.

let's see - I want Princess to NOT enforce the 'excursion credit' for only excursions.

I also want Princess to not enforce when they post that certain credits can not be used in the casino.

but, I also do NOT want Princess to enforce a posted 'dress code' for formal nights😉
